I've been watching a few documentaries on this case with the 10 year anniversary, firstly the panarama one and then the sky news long discussion. Also watched Amarals banned documentary, the Portuguese policeman the mccanns are suing. Ive started reading a new book on the subject.

I can't for the life of me believe these people on the internet who bang on about the guilt of the mccanns, which lacks all credibility. Going to the extent of setting up a fund, taking years off work, suing people to stop wrong stories being perpetuated that could take the focus off finding her, all when they are somehow complicit in her disappearance. Just so unbelievable for me.

Whilst of course very sad, it's a very interesting story nonetheless. The story of a bungled investigation which has led to so many theories and what exactly does the evidence show so far? A classic 'whodunnit' of significant interest.

God if ever you could use a real crystal ball to try and return this child, you'd do it in this case.

I think many are thinking the same thing as I am going to say here now; the children should never have been left unattended in that hotel room in the first place!
Sorry, but if they hadnt, there would be no story, and that little girl would still be with her parents.
The parents know that, and I am sure' if they could turn back time, they would not have left them out of their sight. :(

And that will always taint the view of anyone on the outside.
Whether they were complicit or not - and I don't believe they were, either - they're still guilty in most people's eyes.

I donno as whilst it probably wasn't adviseable to leave young kids alone, they were very close and checking on them, and the chances of something like this happening are horrendously low. Also even if the parents were with them a kidnap situation might still have prevailed had one of them stumbled on an intruder. I don't think it was the cause leaving them, but if I was a parent I'd have a babysitter I think. It's not as if they didn't have the money as well off doctors, to do so.

With my legal insurance head on, I always look at the proximate cause or the 'but for test'. You ask what is the cause, that if you removed all other factors, would not have led to the dissapearance or in the alternate, caused the disappearance. Sadly I don't think that's the parents but the people or person who were intent on abduction and that person may still have been hell bent on it, whether it was Madeline or someone else.

No one knows what happened except the people involved. As they are not going to talk and the trail is stone cold we shall likely never know.

As a parent the kid should never have been left

In some respects I agree but I think it will only take one person to talk, who knows. The liklihood of only one person knowing is remote so if she is still alive and the money reward is still there, and a difference in circumstances arises, someone could say something. It's too high profile maybe for that not to happen.

Yup! I also believe that if the incident had happened here in the UK, dead or alive, she'd have been found by now. I'm not always the biggest fan of our police, but they're a damn sight better than that Portuguese shower of incompetents!

I have no view of the parents, but the cadaver dogs are barely ever wrong.

I actually read that it was the opposite in some American uses of such dogs. But whatever I don't think British police would apportion blame or fault on the basis of a dogs scent. Has to be balanced with other evidence. You couldn't be arrested at Heathrow for drugs possession if a springer spaniel barked at you, officers would have to check if you have them on you, if you were a drug dealer.

The senior officer on the sky news documentary said it has to be backed up by other evidence e.g. DNA, blood etc. Which makes sense.

I am not, and therefore have no right to judge the parents in what happend to that little girl, I dont read the tabloid news, so Have no view, or opinion on the situation, appart from what I stated in my earlier post, I do however; hope that one day the truth will come out, and or hopefuly she will be found.
And that will always taint the view of anyone on the outside.

I read this Amaral guy was taken off the case, was forced to leave the police force from what it seemed was political pressure and went back to Lisbon to live with his parents, without salary or pension. It was then that his book and documentary came out that was banned on mccans libel accusations against him. If I had to guess he did it for cash, but the position of the Portuguese police authority, for which their case is indefinetely open (unlike British investigation coming to an end) has always been that there isn't sufficient evidence of mccans guilt (or anyone for that matter). Therefore amarals position in documentaries etc is at odds with official Portuguese position. this story about a coffin is just supposition which amaral is latching onto as a very tenuous potential explanation. I don't think it helps the mccans that people believe what they read, without weighing motives and stuff up. These sorts of cases upset lots of people and loads of motives are flying around.

I read a few books on the subject since posting this and absolutely no way the mccans were complicit in the dissapearance at all. Quite disgusting how lots of people have made out they were with lots of salacious comments on you tube videos etc.

I did check that out but it's conspiracy theories at best, selective facts, and misrepresentation and I think it plays to people I think who just look at things without balance or without sense of credibility. His videos are long and rambling and it's difficult to actually understand what points he is making quite often. He had some statement analyst in but he didn't look at the balance of what the statement reasoned. So if he interviewed this person who is an expert and the expert gave lots of facts in the negative against the mccans, there is no other reasonable explanation to draw (other than by those that are easily drawn in) that the mccans are the guilty party. On the other hand if hall had said this fact of statement anaylysis is concerning but then someone else balanced it up by saying they saw the mccans crying for days, contradicting an issue raised in statement analysis, one can get a sense of balance to make your own mind up. The people like Hall just try and convince people it's only one sided, which for me is so obvious, so I think the documentary has zero credibility. That said he had lots of interesting stuff to say about some potential suspects including a polish man in his 'documentary' called the Phantoms about the McCans. The funny thing is if he had balanced some if the stuff up, he would get much more of a following.

Some of the videos on you tube about the mccans are really bad. Vitriolic, spiteful hate which is libelous and of a harassing nature. The worst side of the internet sadly.

Weak of mind??????
Tell me one thing that has come forward in any other media that has not been utter twaddle.
The simple fact that the British refuse to acknowledge that the Mccans could be involved shows the true weak minds

You think there is a possibility they killed her accidentally and conspired to cover it up?

I'll grant you that it is not impossible but I would consider it to be very, very unlikely that is what happened.

We live in a very sick world - a world where parents sell their children, kill their children, tie them to beds and rape them, film it and put it on the web, force them into prostitution etc. I have no words to describe how I feel when I learn of these things.

As much as they were stupid to leave the kids alone instead of having a minder there, i dont think they had anything else to do with it. I very much doubt she is alive alas. Not impossible but unlikely. What happened? Dont think we will ever know for sure.
It wasnt a particularly safe place at best of times apparently. leaving kids alone anywhere while you go out for dinner is irresponsible to point of criminal imv.
The Portugese police cocked up the investigation too and that compounded a very difficult situation.
