View Full Version : So I made a slight setup change....... Oh My!
Can you see what I've done? And no it's nothing to do with moving the chair, same socks so it's not that either 😂

It's there if you look very closely.....
Soundstage has widened and deepened, I now feel as the music is right beside me instead of about 5ft in front of me, I can pick out the individual instruments much better too.
Cost? Free as I found the upgrade in one of the kitchen drawers 😉

Moved the chair/sofa away from the right speaker?
You pair of skim readers you lol
You need to look very closely to see it 😉

Made yourself a cuppa? :D
EDIT: Doesn't help that the first pic is focused on your feet!
Made yourself a cuppa? :D
Nope, I always do that anyway, and it can be either latte, white coffee or tea, doesn't seem to make any difference, so no it's not that 😋
I'll leave the photos as they are before doing any closeups, it will be more fun that way ( for me anyway )😄
cleaned out you ears with a butter knife;)
Put something between the stands & speakers?

Oooh now that one hit the wire, but bounced out 😉

Changed angle of mirror, obviously!
Geoff
Stands & floor then ??
We have a winner!
Yip I always sit in the same seat position and always thought the sound was coming from just over my head height so I put a little spacer under the rear of the stand to tilt the speakers forward, ok it's not ideal as I only had one for each stand but it was just a quick test to see if the tweeter/ear height needed shifting.
Ok I know it's basic setup strategy to have the tweeters at the correct height but until you try it....
So I suppose ideally I need slightly shorter stands, or I need to find spikes to add to the stands and adjust them accordingly, I'm sure I have a set that came out of Mission floorstanders that I still have, so I might try those. Whether I can get the correct height without comprising the stability is another matter, especially with a Spaniel in the house that is prone to Zoomies !
Well done Roy 😁

Nope, see previous post, but just to rule out the mirror it was the same as when I checked it 5 tines this morning 😀

What's the prize?

Yep, I'm not surprised.
Tweeter aiming is important.
My speakers have been slightly tilted forward since a month or so after I got them, about 7 years ago.
It dials the sound in just like doing that final slight adjustment on camera focus.

I used to use window wedges. You can buy then easy, and made of softish plastic. Slip 2 under each speaker at back between stand and speaker. Fixes the prob and as they ar wedged you can adjust the amount.

Mike, try turning the speakers upside down.

Excellent suggestion Ali, I reckon that could work a treat.

Another option would be to raise your listening position! Have you considered spiking the sofa!
Or perhaps this approach might work?

Glad to help.

Hi Mike,
You have a nice gap between speakers and well set up.
But get the 25-21s if you can. Fantastic speaker and I upgraded from twenty to twenty5 with 23s, and they are just awesome and a huge improvement over twenty series. I heard some 25-24s in Sevenoaks yesterday on the end of a 20k naim system and they were fantastic.

Mike, try turning the speakers upside down.
Or on their side come to think of it.
Lol, some cracking replies, chuckling away to myself here.
I'll try the upside down speaker tomorrow if I have time.
Has anyone considered getting one of those anti-gravity yoga things which allow one's body to be hung upside down? It would save having to re-orientate the speakers, instead one's ears could be aligned perfectly to the tweeter height. And also theoretically with all that extra blood in one's head the treble will be better defined and all the sharp edges smoothed in a highly musical way. And perhaps bass will be more more impact?
Just thinking aloud here ....
 :)

Lol might be worth a try.

Mike, try turning the speakers upside down.
I've see the recommendation to run PMCs upside down on studio fora before too, won't do any harm to try.
Speakers on their side is a different game though (not that it will harm them - just unlikely to yield sonic benefits) as if your apply any toe-in it messes with the phase/time relationship between the tweeter and woofer.

Given the size of the speaker, I doubt it would make much difference.
I've dropped them back down as I was getting a bit of sibilance on certain tracks, I've slightly adjusted the position of the stands and I have kept pretty much all of the improvement without the sssss 😊

Good stuff. That kind of thing gets annoying once you notice it.

Yeah drives me nuts so back to 'almost' the same position
