View Full Version : Are there any people with knowledge of the Stevens and Billington TX102 transformers

As far as I can tell there are a number of different versions of the Stevens and Billington TX102 copper wire transformers sold as self assembly (DIY).

I read of versions with 20 clicks 24 clicks and 28 clicks
I read of different coloured leads
I read of mk1, mk2 and mk3 versions

Does anyone have the facts?

Not sure if it is of any help, I can only direct you the the Sevens and Billington TX102 TVC site: http://web.archive.org/web/20070710172959/http://www.stevens-billington.co.uk/page102.htm , which seems only to consider 18 level volume control.

Thanks Barry I hadn't seen that, but it seems to be dated around 2002 and I think one complaint of those early attenuators was that they presented big jumps in volume between clicks.

I have the mk3's which are for 23 position switching. Will have to take the lid off to check the wire colours.

The wires on mine are white on one side and black on the other, I guess to distinguish the channels.

I did contact Jonathan. The best he could offer was that this was the Classic design (which was so well reviewed). He did offer to take it in, service it, and measure the transformer values at a cost of £120. Apparently there are no serial numbers on the trannys, nor identifying marks. :(

Thanks Keith. My trannys were bought and wired for me by an old friend who died about 5 years ago, so I'm in the dark as to what I have.
