I am currently using a RPi with HifiBerry Digi +.
I am using the optical out into a DAC and I am pleased with the results.
However, I am considering buying another RPi and bypassing the stand alone DAC.
Are any good DAC boards for the RPi that also have XLR outputs rather than RCA phono outputs.

I think this is fairly close to what you want, but requires some 'fettling'...:eyebrows:

Thanks,
the unit is out of stock at present but I think I will get one when in stock. They should have a case for it soon.
Apparently the XLR sockets attach via cables to the board which is not ideal (for me anyway). However, I am guessing that I could probably cannibalise a pair of XLR cables and solder one end directly to the board thereby eliminating one link in the connection chain.
Will update on progress one the boards are in stock.

HiFiBerry are now selling a DAC + Pro with XLRs here (https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/boards/hifiberry-dac-pro-xlr/)
I've just been down a similar route and moved from the Digi + board to the DAC + Pro with phonos and have been impressed with the improvement in SQ.
