I was wondering if anyone has tried one of the Earth, Moon or Sun discrete op-amps in their Standac? They look substantial in size so the cover wouldnt go on. Also they are more expensive than standard op-amps.

neither will work well in the Stan dac, the supply voltage isn't really suited for them tbh

Thanks Leo-it was worth a try.
Hasn't your cat got a big nose? :)

Just out of interest Leo, what supply voltage do they require and what dac's use 'em?
(Give my apologies to your cat, it was rude of me to comment on his nose)

I think +/-12v (totaling 24v) is rated as the minimum, you only get half that single rail in the Caiman, lower voltage these devices perform much worse.
I'd imagine they all would work best with voltage output dacs (like the types used in Stans dacs) The sound from these types of discrete are heavily flavoured so are not neutral which is ok if thats what your after.

The cat doesn't mind being called big nose, she's recovering at the mo, some B*****d shot her with an air rifle the other week

Years ago,one of my mum's cats was shot right through the neck. Not only did he recover,he lived to the ripe old age of 23!

Joking aside, f***** b******* - I'd like 10 minutes with an air rifle and the w****** that shoot innocent cats...

Here's some more discrete opamps... http://www.hificollective.co.uk/components/bursonaudioopamps.html

I wouldn't like to try and fit those into a standac!

23 is a bloody good age for a cat too!
with ours it entered the chest and travelled 4inch ending up deep in the top of her leg, the vet says removing it would cause more damage so it has to stay

We actually thought it was a bite from a dog, the X-ray shows pretty clear what it was, I had to take a pic http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj220/kingbusoms/P1000542.jpg

Me too tbh, I'm easy going but don't tollerate cruelty , I'll sort it my own way once I find out who it was

I think those and the Audio-GD Earth modules mentioned in the first post are supposed to be very close circuit wise, I've heard that the Audio-GD ones are a clone of the Bursons and vice versa

Pleanty of W****** in our area Alex :(

I don't think any or many of 'em have air-rifles though...

Methinks a cordless drill with a 10mm HSS bit straight through the bonnet of his pride and joy at around 02:30.

Although "people who don't like cats must have been mice in a previous life", I admit that some of them must have been rats instead. ;)

I think this might just be possible when my Re-Case project is all finished....:eyebrows:

Very little regarding specs, infact I can't see much info at all:scratch:

Yah, sorry about your cat, but anyway on the subject of the Audio GD modules, they do sound very very nice, I have had the pleasure, in an Audio GD Compass.

They can be used in the Tinyuan ZERO dac, now I have never seen one of these things with my own eyes but I am led to believe that they are VERY poorly made.

I was told the Audio GD Earth version of the modules is the same circuit as these http://www.audioupgrades.co.uk/burson.shtml
