I very much doubt that any of us is really capable of 'seeing ourselves as others see us'. The faults we are quickest to point out in others are, almost invariably, our own most glaring faults that we are unable to see.

It is worth bearing in mind the wise words of Eleanor Roosevelt: 'If you can't think of anything nice to say about anyone, come right over here and sit next to me'.

What I find interesting is when trolls take it to the next level and delude themselves that their childishness and nastiness is providing some sort of 'public service'. I suppose it is a way of dealing with the cognitive dissonance they must occasionally experience. After all, even Hitler believed that he was actually a force for good.

Ha - that's funny, and oh so true! :D

The "public service" in question is nonsense, of course, and in reality simply a smokescreen, justifying their mania for criticising others, the purpose of which is simply to deflect attention from their own (very obvious) personality disorders, and reaffirm their delusion.

Essentially, performing said "public service" acts as a comfort blanket, which is the main reason why the perpetrator values its existence so much.

The other highly amusing (and ridiculous) thing is the idea that one's behaviour should somehow conform to their 'notion of correctness', in order to prevent them from criticising you. One would be tempted to consider that if:

a) the suggestion was coming from someone normal or who's opinion you respected, and b) they didn't suffer from the very same personality traits they're accusing their 'victims' of!

However, as Gary says, the self-delusion simply runs too deep, to allow them to see themselves as they *really* are......

I like that quote, Joe. In terms of the bit in bold, I completely agree, and ALL of us, without exception, suffer from that to some degree. It's simply human nature.

The difference, however, is that most of us don't make a career out of verbally assassinating people, to the point of pure harassment and persecution, devoting an entire section of their website to fulfilling that purpose, cunningly disguised as a 'public service', whilst being *so painfully* ignorant of their OWN most glaring faults!

It's beyond comical, and the behaviour of someone with a very real form of personality disorder themselves, witnessed in sharp focus by everyone living outside of their 'world'.

As someone who has had to study psychology a great deal, I am not convinced that this behaviour is severe enough to be considered an illness as much as a personality disorder which is milder.

The origins it seems to me are in our patterns of survival strategy in our society which is one of competitive, and resultantly alienated co-existence. I think many personality types are formed, perhaps subconsciously, in the early years from (often panic) realisations of the magnitude of what is going on regarding the pickings and potential statuses at stake in life.

There are those who readily grasp an aggressive stance, which may be taken to extreme, and which often works because it 'backfoots' the more sensitive and less aggressive types, and this can gain momentum and become an embedded strategy.
They are more content it seems with self aggrandisement and acquisition than with approval of others, let alone popularity.

My original reference for this was my own Father, who was so critical of my behaviour both intellectually and morally, that focus was always on me to the point of obscuring his own performance. Ultimately he is now visible as pretty poor in both respects, but the narcissistic ego driven aggression continued to deflect any focus on him and keep him from being 'under the spotlight'.

I know of a now retired Sales Director who worked 25 years ago for a major active loudspeaker company, and more recently for a smaller one which sold only direct to the public, who has a widespread reputation for arrogance and bombastic bullying, and is loathed by vast swathes of the audio community. His strategy was to 'clone' his customers' psychology, in essence, by bullying them into buying. He successfully improved sales of the former company which was previously in trouble.

I actually have a 45 min recording of this man telling me that I effectively have 'cloth ears' because I could not instantly hear the superiority of his loudspeakers, recorded from my own Samplephone.

I want a world in which we consider each others' needs and feelings, not alienated from each other, but helping our peers as friends, not in a free for all, but some form of meritocracy, but those who want to harness the manpower of 'the masses' end up 'dividing and ruling' the majority who just want to live . Philip Green, Mike Ashley, (of "I own you" fame).

My fear is that beneath all the supposed intellectual refinement and subtle finesse which our liberal elite propound, the real dynamics are those at a very guttural level, the most animal; bullying, intimidation, self aggrandisement and desire for a comfort zone, status wise, and with opulence.

They will inevitably experience cognitive dissonance because reality is always seeping in, and even they have to recognise that other differing opinions or views must have some value.

I am not sure that we criticise most in others the faults we ourselves possess, but in the last few years I have made a deliberate attempt to when seeing bad behaviour in others, not internally criticise them, but to say to myself; "I will not be that way".

Think the problem for many of these people is that being they way they are is like a drug to them. Once they have adapted to the false sense of high self esteem, then they just cant get enough. Deep down they may realise its dragging them deeper into a mire but that feeling of achievement of doing their so called duty is so attractive, and needed they just feel they have to go on.

Agreed, and HiFi forums, as I've said before, are littered with these types; even here. The protagonists don't even know it, or don't care. Their 'friends' should stand up and let them know, quietly, then these places might be a little more friendly.

I think most of us try to do that, but I also think we give ourselves the benefit of the doubt; ie, the faults we recognise in ourselves and admit to are what we would regard as amiable, forgiveable failings, whereas the faults that we are quickest to identify in others are often our own worst, unrecognised failings, projected on to them. But of course I'm generalising, which is one of my worst faults.

As clear evidence of the delusion in question, witness the following from one such troll, speaking about the "public service" he's brainwashed himself into believing that his chosen forum has succeeded to provide, as an 'antidote' to their enemy:

My apologies, as many of you may not know whom or what he's referring to, however his commentary below serves the purpose of showcasing said delusion:

Services to Hifi , [a banned forum] has to-date performed in respect of AOS

Exposing the reality of the owner .
Establishing he stole it from steve toy
exposing shilling of Mcru { who eventually left on account of our intervention}
exposing the shilling of Hifi dave
providing a voice to be people unfairly banned - 12 I think , remember mendeslonplums
Exposing the debacle that was Slic
Exposing the debacle that was Martint's £695 mains lead
Exposing the debacle that was Gazjam mcru streamer relationship
Exposing the rhetoric of RFC
Exposing the ridiclousness of pinkys electronic knowledge and bmu
Exposing the ridiculousness of gazjam fuses thread
The conversion of DSJR
Causing the reasonable mods to leave and set up a barmy , but far more benign forum
The provision of expert counter knowledge to balance the ridiculousness of hundreds of bollocks threads

As you can see, not only does that delusion run deep (as some of the above is simply fantasy), but so does a breathtaking level of arrogance, causing said troll to consider that he's in a qualified position to act as arbiter for the accuracy of such claims, especially in relation to what is deemed as "bollocks" - or even more laughably, "expert counter knowledge".

Of course, the irony of those remarks certainly isn't lost on those of us who know the character concerned!

Further confirming his brainwashed delusion, he opines, thus:

...there are 14996 posts which have had 700,000 views each one a service to hifi or in the alternative a laugh out loud response to the ridiculousness of the forum and its owner.

Indeed, 14996 posts that simply serve to demonstrate an unhealthy hate-fuelled mania, obsessing over the behaviour of others, subsequently showcasing both their author's nasty childishness, unwillingness to let bygones be bygones, and their obvious discontentment with life, whilst the targets of their jealousy and resentment have blissfully got on with their (conversely) contented ones.

The 700,000 views quoted simply confirm the membership activity, fuelling the above obsession, minus a goodly dose of that from onlookers, tuning in for their daily dose of comedy, in the vein of 'let's laugh at what the loons are saying today'. A "laugh out loud response" indeed!!

I rest my case :)

Spot on, Joe.

I'm certainly as guilty of that as anyone else, but the difference is: I can *recognise* that and am happy to admit it (as indeed I'm doing now), which I'd suggest shows that I'm rather more in touch with reality, and being aware of my faults, than some of the trolls in question.

Here is my amateur (but very well considered I think) view of why trolls exist in a psychological sense.

I think the attitudes of trolls which Pharos so succinctly put in his post (which is I think very perceptive) are sadly reflected in more people in the uk then they would care to admit. Maybe we all have it in us a bit to the extent it's been infused in us by our societal psyche.

In the U.K. we live in a society now where qualities such as steadfastness and fortitude in adversity, as well as patience, were largely qualities of the war generations. Now that these individuals have largely left us, the pool of people from whom our society takes its attitude is different. I think this is true because we shape our attitudes from what we have to conform to and what is acceptable. My grandfather was the most patient person in the world and could deal with people in such situations because he was in the army in Burma and had to reflect on taking Japanese people's lives. He had to swim over a mile when the British general Sim blew up the bridge over the Sitang river in 1942 to stop the Japanese advancement on India. Now if this doesn't make you think, on his retirement in 60s Britain, why should I blow the milkman up over messing up the milk order, I don't know what will. He sadly died last November aged 99, four months short of his 100th birthday. A battle he could not fight.

So going back to my point about our attitudes being formed by our elders, I think it's also coming down to how our society is now. Our population is hugely greater than it once was but largely we are living in the same areas, with huge pressures on space. Consequently our roads are more difficult to use, such that getting to the supermarket on a Saturday afternoon and a 3 mile drive, was a 10 minute drive in the 80's. It now takes over half an hour in traffic. House prices are all but unaffordable for first time buyers too and there is no change on the horizon.

I also think the pressure on people to do more in jobs with much better communications and greater regulation on business which pushes costs sky high, makes firms need to work people harder. In addition is that we now operate in competition with markets worldwide from home in the uk, due to the Internet.

So all this pressure on people is bringing in reprehensible qualities of human beings in the uk such as lack of patience and willingness to want action here and now on things. The ability to need to get something straight away. Impulsive attitudes with no thought for others. And I'm not saying I'm immune. But with regard to this argument, how is it we can order something online and get it tomorrow but it takes me longer to drive to the shops a mile away. Whether we would admit it or not I think these are thoughts burbling away under the surface which turn us into who we are.

We see it more and more in our public services and politicians, such that it's not uncommon to have liar politicians e.g. Expenses scandals, and public bodies that perpetuate organisational failure. I think our police service is one just having read a book about the hillsborough disaster by Phil Scraton called 'the truth'. And regularly reading about unscrupulous police officers. One wonders if not one police force can fabricate evidence in witness statements to protect themselves (south yorks) and another can condone it (Merseyside) by not holding them to account in investigations, plus an ipcc who fails, what is actually going on in everyday cases with police corruption which is known to be rife. Or in the NHS who do harm to people by failings but protected and covered up by the phso. The point is that this attitude to seeing public bodies 'go it alone' by the way they do 'get away' with stuff, I think, lends itself to the attitude that people have that they too will take and form their own attitudes without a societal check to say, you can't insult someone for a simple thing like the milk. In some respects it's total disillusionment and whilst I think you can't blame members of society for holding these attitudes as our society is failing, we do have a responsibility to each other. There is no one, with the absence of the wise grandad, to provide checks and balances. But then our society and politicians don't I think show we have responsibility to each other, because they clearly don't really to us as our elected representatives. It's a dog eat dog world which is sadly hugely selfish.

And one cannot say that our generations before pass down good habits because that will change in an instant if our experiences and society change, which clearly has been the case over a short space of time e.g. Since the 80s.

So I think this is why these trolls are a law unto themselves. It's all me, me, me shaped by these types of 21st century experiences. I was watching a guy say on another forum in apology to another, that is was ok to troll because the police are too busy. This was on cyrusunofficial.

I worked for a firm once and I hadn't got my report out on time, and my manager got criticised by his female manager but stuck up for me and in a conference call, with myself, my manager and his manager on the phone. She told him to make sure I 'got the ffing report out'. I heard this and it just made me feel horrendous as I'm quite sensitive anyway but I was astounded she would care to mention this in my presence. I did not bother to pander to this lady for my promotional prospects because my integrity of being myself naturally with her, as a consequence, was much more important. I remember going into a training session with her and others afterwards and I remember her saying something like 'this is the decision to pay or not to pay' (i worked in a insurance loss adjusting firm hence this language) and I remember saying back 'deal or no deal' to which I got a laugh from the group. And I followed this up by another humorous comment later. You could tell the room was favouring my popularity at the time due to my comments, and she wasn't so much liked, but I suspect she would easily be the type of person who is a troll that has no consciousness of the effects of her attitudes to others, or that if she was aware, it wouldn't really matter anyway as she was the boss. But she clearly encouraged my humerous comments because it made her look good. I suspect like these poor hi fi forums it's often those that are in with the owners, that can escape it.

So id say when you don't like what someone says or does, be it as a manager or friend insulting another friend it's good to let them know to give these checks and balances. Don't just think about yourself and your motivation that it might upset them so they might not be your friend or best colleague etc, because there are means and ways to do it and I think in a humourous way sometimes. A colleague was driving us all to a clients sewage works on a 'day out' at breakneck speeds because we were late, and I said ; 'I know we are going to visit a sewerage works, but we might really be in the sh-t if we continue at this speed'. It got a laugh but it worked.

Yet further evidence of ingrained delusion, but this time, his response shows an inability to see what he's written for what it *actually* is:

note it is all rhetoric [ it is as I say it is because I say it is ]

Which is precisely what your 'commentary' equates to from before!!:mental:

[Note *specifically* the highlighted text above, which represents the tone of said 'commentary', all of which is merely YOUR biased interpretation of the so-called facts, nothing else].

And now, because obviously what I've written has hit home, you're scrambling around, desperately trying find other evidence you've brainwashed yourself into believing confirms what you're saying is true, when in reality it is simply your wishful thinking [symptoms of delusion] making it thus.

Honestly, it's like taking candy from a baby, so before I'm accused of rather cruelly mocking the afflicted, I'll leave things there. You'd do well to quit before making even more of a fool of yourself.

I agree with most of your depiction of societal changes Simon, and I also apologise for using "Dynamics" earlier if it was offensive.
(C'mon someone, tear into me about it).

I have my late Mothers childhood encyclopedias, Newnes Pictorial Knowledge, in which character requirements are listed. They include humility, honour, and valour amongst them and they sound rather archaic now, because of societal changes, which I argue were contributed by Mrs. T, and the following loss of religion as a moderating guide. We also need forbearance.

The former emphasised that individuality was mainly expressed by the acquisition of material goods, and I remember in the early to mid 80s the waves, literally, of shock flowing down my spine with her drastic and austere announcements.

The selfishness polarises people because they can see that they might be left out.
In the 70s I used to model and discuss, that I wanted a society in which for example, there were 12 of us in a room socialising, and we had a cake to share, and that we could trust each other such that I could go out for half an hour and know that my piece would be there for me on return.

But in reality someone takes two pieces, and another sees this and then thinks he had better grab a couple, no make that 3, and before long there is nothing left and five go without.

A month or so ago I was approaching the Morrisons checkout, and a large teenager walked back into me without looking, and I was shocked but said nothing. He apologised, but then his Father launched into a major attack on me for the way I looked, followed by the checkout girl also attacking on me. Things have gone rather awry in society, and many other people also think this.

I cannot see how there can be a reformation because of the increased competition and materialism.
The 'box' shouts at us every evening telling us to go out and buy stuff, immense amounts of food, and then the programmes tell us how not to be fat, that we mustn't smoke or drink to alleviate the pressure, but go to the gym.
Then they tell us they will 'see us soon' at the end of programmes. How does that work?
And we all sit in our concrete boxes with our toys, thinking we are emancipated.

Also Simon regarding the police, in my last 13 years of trouble with my neighbour the police have been involved numerously.
A few years ago she accused me of using Hi-Tech recording equipment in my back bedroom to spy on her, and the police called and searched the whole house saying that the criterion was whether or not it 'looked' over the boundary. They found nothing.

The following day she was actually photogtaphing my builder as he worked, over my rear garden fence. I informed the police, who did not even come out even though it was all witnessed.
I have written two letters of complaint to the Chief Constable, two to the IPCC, and three to my MP. The former two have never even replied, and the latter has but two of the three contained fundamental errors of fact.

There are currently 6 Chief Constables under investigation.

On one forum I used to frequent, someone was mistakenly identified as a university lecturer at a university in Liverpool simply because he shared the same, fairly common, name. He played along with this, boasting about he spent all day in the pub, and sold drugs to his students. He was about to be 'unmasked' by the forum police, when a bit of basic detective work by yours truly showed he couldn't be the lecturer.

Interesting... There was a guy called 'Blzebub' (you'll know him), real name James McPeake, and one of those arrogant and blinkered objectivists who populate forums, seeking to target and ridicule those he resented, who was once my arch enemy, similar to someone else you also know, and who used to be on the old Naim and Mana forum, Zerogain, and and latterly pfm, 'poking' me continually, being personally abusive on a regular basis, and overall a persistent irritant. In those days forums weren't as strictly moderated as they are now, so he got away with it.

I knew exactly where he lived in Glasgow, because I'd visited him, to hear his system before, shall we say, 'relations deteriorated' and he carried out his campaign of vilification and harassment, all because I'd dared to stand up to him and give him a taste of his own medicine (one thing bullies like him absolutely hate).

Anyway, it got so bad that to stop him I had two options: 1) go round to his house and give him the smack in the mouth, which he so richly deserved, but I decided he wasn't worth getting into trouble for, or 2) report his dubious 'on-line activities', during working hours to his employers, and rely on them taking a very dim view of that. I certainly wasn't just going to put up with his persecution forever. Why should I...?

It was no secret he was a consultant for the NHS (as he'd told everyone that), and I found out he worked at the RAH hospital in Paisley, just outside of Glasgow. Therefore, I wrote a letter to the head of the personnel department, enclosing evidence of saved screen shots, of the content and time of his posts on the aforementioned forums, and worded it in the strongest of terms that as a tax payer [let's remember that we're talking here about the NHS], I was utterly appalled at essentially paying for this idiot to abuse me, although I of course put it rather differently!

I received written confirmation of my letter, along with the assurance that they'd taken the matter very seriously and would look into it further and get back to me, which they later did and told me that they had dealt with Mr McPeake, in line with their disciplinary procedure, and I derived much satisfaction from that ;)

For a while, the abuse stopped, as whatever his bosses had done had the net effect of 'clipping his wings', but as you can imagine he was absolutely livid with me for reporting him to his employers, as his previous unblemished record there was no more.

Anyway, this particular cowardly troll we're discussing aside, I should state publicly, here and now, that I would not hesitate for one second taking the same action against anyone else guilty of the same form of harassment, and trust me, if the motivation is there, it's not difficult to find out where someone works, and then report those guilty to their employers, as due payback.

These lily-livered scum need to know that, sooner or later, they will face the consequences for their actions, and that in order to stop them, I will take it as far as I can legally go, in order to ensure that they receive their comeuppance. To facilitate that aim, I have saved screen shots of every abusive forum post directed at me by certain individuals, including dates and times, the contents of which will be used as evidence to support my case to their employers, in any action I decide to take - and then we'll see what happens.

Wasn't that an episode of Miss Marple? Sounds like the gist of one.

Ha! I almost wished I'd let them carry on, possibly letting themselves in for a libel claim. They were so sure they'd got the right bloke. One of them threatened to 'visit' the bloke with a baseball bat, which is when I thought things had gone far enough.

Nothing worse than a grass, IMO. I'm out of here.

So, I should've just 'sat back and took it' or gone and punched him instead? Neither for me was a viable option.

Courtesy and manners have gone out the window these days, and folk have lost the habit of *automatically* showing civility to others, on DAY ONE of meeting them, either on-line or in real life, as they've got away with being nasty and rude to whoever they like for way too long, and thus consider it their 'right'.

Well, I'm here to teach them that it most certainly isn't, or rather that I won't put up with it!

The problem is, what goes around comes around and karma is a bitch and all the other clichés. A guy pisses you off so you shop him to his employer so he keys your car so you punch him on the nose so he sticks your DD up your arse and so on and so on.
There is always a guy round the corner who can tango faster and dirtier so I try not to get too excited, especially about words on a screen which has an off button.

Well, like I said, you're entitled to your opinion, as am I to mine. My view is that if you keep poking a rattle-snake, then don't cry when it eventually bites!! ;)

Some folk need to learn the hard way that there are real consequences for their actions, especially those who think it's ok to persecute someone (for years), just because they don't like them, and because their victims have justifiably retaliated, rather than simply sat back and took it!

And I strongly disagree with the "it's only words on a screen" bollocks. If you don't have the balls to say something to someone's face, then don't do it behind a computer keyboard either. Simple! :)

Sorry, I don't think you get it really. Unless you are HIFIs answer to Bruce Lee then as I say there is always someone round the corner that can trump your revenge; and at the end of the day, if you can remain philosophical and at peace with the fact that they ARE only words on a screen that mean little then life can be a lot more enjoyable.

Marco
26-04-2017, 21:02
You misunderstand me, their actions aren't stopping my enjoyment one iota (far from it), and I consider what they write as risible, but I simply don't see why I should put up with what they're doing. I'm not used to being treated that way off-line, so I won't tolerate it on-line either, and I don't see why anyone else should, including Simon.

Ask him if ignoring his trolls stopped their abuse? I doubt it! Look at the effect those "words on a screen" had on his health! So how can you possibly treat them as trivial?

Why should these people simply be allowed to get away with their abusive behaviour? Trolls should be stopped (nullified at source) - end of. Ignoring them solves nothing, because they'll simply carry on regardless.

It's not about "revenge", but simply doing what's right.

Not in its most serious form. Nothing like the type of trolling Simon's suffered from, which makes what I experienced pale into insignificance!

More like the forum clique ganging up on me, some of whom were still carrying age-old grudges, from spats we'd had before, which in many cases was completely unjustified, aided and abetted by certain mods who were part of the same clique. The new owner wanted to wipe the slate clean, but some dinosaurs, more interested in protecting their best interests, didn't see it that way.

Anyway, as I no longer wish my recent experience there to be mentioned, and with it the likelihood of discussing WW in a negative light, that's the last now on that particular topic.

Yes, I totally *GET* that, and to an extent agree, but *why* should the trolls simply be allowed to get away with their disgraceful behaviour?? They are total scum - and scumbags need punished.

I think where we're largely in disagreement is that, for you, the Internet is not the real world, but for me it most certainly is, in terms of the effect what's written there can have on people's lives. Look at how many kids, for example, have committed suicide, as a result of trolling behaviour and abuse on social media.

Forums such as this are a form of social media, so the net effect of trolling for some is the same, as ably demonstrated by Simon's story.

I think that's admirable Marco but I would be a bit careful especially if you are dealing with people who have probably got resources like a doctor etc, and probably have solicitor friends. If it came to him being able to show that your actions caused him loosing his job, granted it's down to him, he could potentially go down the libel/slander route.

The best thing surely for trolls is a good and serious police reporting thing that is taken seriously, and if not take up with the police. It's probably the case the police don't bother so to get people to take trolling seriously it's probably a case of rallying police, if ever the issue was to be looked at properly and if people want to go that far. Or maybe go to a charity etc that do that for you. Also going to an employer they probably just don't care especially if he does a good job which is likely otherwise why is he still there.

Not allowing them to get away with it...by shopping them to their employer or punching them on the nose or whatever is revenge, so we are back there on that rotation. Simon doesn't seem like that type so walking is the onlynoption.

And the trolls then move onto another victim, emboldened by getting away with their antics unchallenged. Somebody sometime needs to take them down. Tackling trolls and bullies is not a sign of fragility, it's a sign of strength IMO.

Marco
26-04-2017, 21:48
For me, their disgraceful behaviour needs stopping by whatever legal means best achieves that. As they say: 'all's fair in love and war'...

I'm a different type from Simon, so I have other options than just walking, which for me does nothing to STOP the SOURCE of the problem - and as with hi-fi, I always tackle problems *at source*!

I'm not the type to become emotionally 'damaged' from trolling behaviour against me, so I'd rather take the route of being the one who will ultimately do the damaging [not in a physical sense, though]... ;)

Ultimately, I derive great satisfaction from FORCING trolls to stop what they're doing, as I *know* just how much that irks them! :D

Marco

I am as already stated I believe not clear, despite looking it up, what a troll is.

But dealing with bullying on forums, or any from of such in argument where someone is abusive because my expressed understanding or opinion differs, my strategy is rather different.

My inclination is to disprove what I see as a false statement if I can do so, illustrating my stance with reasoning, and then ask for a refutation of my reasoning and view, or a retort disproving me.

Eventually either the truth will out, one of us being wrong, or one person will be seen as too thick to understand the problem, and that will be evident to all who can understand.

In the case of denigration of my views, or insults, I would just cerebrally point out that this behaviour does nothing but make the perpetrator look rude, and then not respond further.

I have done this successfully several times to the Sales Director I mentioned earlier, and it is possible to feel his realisation of his foolishness, and also the reaction of the other members to his exposure.
His hackles rise now when I post, and though supressed, he squirms a little.

Hi Dennis,
Sorry I called you by your tag name earlier too, habit of the other forum.
But I agree with you as to your approach.
I think I'm going to post lots about music on this forum to get ideas and hi fi when I know a bit about it.
But I agree with you about Sussex police. A dodgy lot and did you know that many of their current employees have criminal records. I know that one Sussex police officer stabbed his son by accident when inappropriately showing him how gladiators fight. He carried on in the police for 8 years as a bobby on the beat. There is another guy working for sp who ran into a lady and killed her at Gatwick with his car, but he carried on with the force. Also the guy who shared porn to colleagues last year and was fired was reinstated. The ex chief constable left under tenuous circumstances and on a police pension, and then what happened to Duncan Tomlin in Haywards Heath a few years ago. Police officers carried on for a few years before charges dropped. I read a lot about police misgivings because I just wonder how much worse it actually is when much of it is hidden. The current police crime commissioner is being investigated by the Ipcc for electoral fraud. Sussex police investigate 90 percent of cases on 'local resolution' which means people don't have the right of appeal to the ipcc. This is something that needs to change and why police corruption is rife because they are a law unto themseves deciding which cases they let run to the ipcc is a huge abuse of power. Bw Simon

Cheers, Simon. Sometimes you've got to take a stand against these people, or as Scoobs has said, they then see it as a green light to go and do the same to someone else, who's only 'crime' is that they're different (and in many ways better) than they are, so the trolls are punishing others because of their jealousy.

The incident I'm referring to happened many years ago, so is done and dusted now. Also, in terms of resources, my own aren't exactly lacking in substance either ;) The guy concerned had been giving me unjustified dog's abuse for years, so I had ample saved evidence to sue him for harassment. Therefore, 'two can tango', as it were.

Normally, I wouldn't acknowledge the pathetic existence of this particular troll, as he's typical of the most cowardly of the breed, but just this ONCE I will, as I'd like to use what he's written to raise a few salient points:

Thank you Marco for a most amusing day, a laugh from most of your posts. I'm not jealous of your life, at least I have a garage.

You're most welcome, as we aim to please. Quite frankly, I'm relieved that you possess the ability to laugh, as you normally come across as the most joyless, po-faced prude I've ever encountered, and your tut-tutting at the 'smut' on 3WD (Three Words Daily) makes you sound about 70! What age are you then, granddad? :)

You do realise, surely, that I *deliberately* 'play up' on 3WD, just to annoy you, and then laugh out loud myself at your hilariously indignant reaction on 'the midden'? Trust me, I get a LAUGH from that, all right! :D

As for you "not being jealous of my life", well you do a great job of hiding it!

I've seen your reaction to the freedom I enjoy daily, to do exactly what I like, when I like, as no-one is my boss, which for you in that sad, dreary little office you work in, with your boss bearing down on you all day, is the exact opposite, so I can well imagine your jealousy, and thus take great pleasure in rubbing your nose in it at every available opportunity.

At this point, I would draw your attention to the first of my signatures (in bold blue) below, and in that respect, 'alfer', you *are* an abject failure :ner:

As for your infantile remark about the garage, the least said the better (as it simply exposes you for what you are). So I'll merely factually correct you, and state that I have one. If you want, since you seem strangely fixated with it, I can post a picture of it for you and send it as a postcard.

You seem to want to be respected. Ignore this: respect is earned and cannot be forced out of others or demanded, in fact you would do better to keep quiet about it. Have you ever thought why so many people do not respect you?

No, it's not about respect; it's about courtesy and CIVILITY, something that due to your arrogance, poor upbringing and incorrect assumption that you can behave how you like towards people, is an alien concept. Well, I'm not like others who will simply just put up with it. I actively *address* bad manners! Here's a scenario for you:

If while walking along the street, you accidentally bump into someone, is your reaction to immediately apologise for being clumsy, or do you just give them a filthy look, as if they shouldn't have been in your way?

Your selfish, abrasive and inconsiderate behaviour to date, towards others, indicates the latter, and that's why folk of your ilk are ultimately banned from places like AoS.

Quite simply, we don't tolerate people like you - and *that* irks you beyond belief (as you've been FORCED from doing what you want), which is why others and you, who've been guilty of the same behaviour here in the past, and banned for it [your 'master' on the midden is the prime example], then subsequently engage in a campaign of retaliation, ridiculously considering yourself as 'hard done to', when you only have yourselves and your insufferable behaviour to blame!

It's about affording people due courtesy and civility, as a matter of course, from day one of meeting them, even before getting to know them, or whether you might like them or not, something neither you nor your 'master' did when you were on AoS; indeed you did precisely the opposite, which is ultimately why you were banned.

Having such courtesy and civility shown towards me is how not only I expect to be treated in real life (and am), but also on-line, and *everyone* deserves the same, which is why control is put into place here to ensure that it happens, and you hate that. Well, here's the news, sweetheart, too bad. It's high time you dried your eyes and got over it.

Lastly, as for "have I thought why so many people do not respect me"...

Well get this: I don't see them as "people", but simply faceless [often nameless] Internet entities, as in reality that's all they are, so why should I care a jot about what they think...??

I don't go on forums to be liked (I've got plenty of good friends in real life, so I don't need to be liked); I go on them to be myself and discuss hi-fi, in my inimitable style, and if some folk don't like that or ME, then fuck them, that's *their* problem, not mine.

And that, most certainly, and especially, applies to you. You sad, pathetic and inadequate little man. Adios!

Marco.

And that matters to you, why?

I'm sick to death of the same few trolls popping up like "whack-a-moles" to spoil it for the rest of us. It's nice to see a forum and forum owner with a zero "trollerance" stance.

Some people should be banned from accessing the net altogether.

I 'moved' here after experiencing a bag load of shit from that forum that everyone knows but seemingly haven't mentioned.

But it is a friendly forum. They started It as far as I'm aware. Why should Marco sit back and take shit from scum?

I don't believe in ignoring bullies and that's why my young son does MMA and I tell him off If he allows someone to bully him.
MMA. Id been practicing for years before a self caused injury retired me. Id recommend it to anyone. Especially those with confidence issues.

Sorry, haven't read all of the preceding 330 posts, but trolls don't usually last long here ime. So, just to say that I prefer this site to others because of the standard and consistency of the moderation .... and a huge thank you to Marco and all the moderators, for making this a pleasant and interesting place to learn about our hobby :pat:

Simon, youre in the right place here. This is a great forum with a lot of really great people.

This is a great and friendly forum. The only risk I here is feeling the urge to buy a Technics 1200 and work your way through the complete upgrade path. Its rewarding, but its a process...

A few years back I began dabbling on 5 forums and after a while narrowed down to just this one. Amongst other reasons the effective moderation here was a factor. It strikes me as a bit like running a pub - a capable landlord sets the tone, let the tone slip and its hard to rein it back.

Cheers, guys. We do our best to make the vibe here as friendly, fun and informative as we can, and run the forum in a way which best facilitates that, whilst remaining as true as possible to our core subjectivist ethos.

The comparison with a pub landlord is valid, as much like a capable one, focussed on maintaining the desired atmosphere in his or her establishment, the mod team and I actively operate a zero tolerance policy on out-and-out irritants/trolls, or those determined to flout the type of behaviour (considerate towards and tolerant of others) we insist upon from members of AoS.

Therefore, those who think that they're entitled to 'do what they like', regardless, can find themselves another pub! ;)

I guess this is p**k f**h from the sound of it but even if it isn't - just stay away from whatever forum it is. Much of the hifi culture online is really toxic and very few people with any knowledge just a lot of sad anoraks waving their willies around and the owners of forums are often as bad. Sorry for your bad experience its best to cut and run when this happens and don't get toxic slime all over you. Fortunately I have not seen any incidences of that here though I post seldom these days.
