Vinyl Recommendations

Hi all,

In view of a recent thread here about the quality of new vinyl. I wondered if we couldn't have a place to recommend good sounding vinyl pressings, new or old? Assuming there isn't one already.

In the past few months I've gotten back into records and so have bought one or two with varying degrees of success. For instance the two Peter Gabriel remasters I've bought are truly excellent and well priced, considering they both come with a 24/96 download of the album as well!
I've also heard that the Analogue Productions of the first Counting Crows album (200g 45 rpm) is brilliant, sound quality wise, so that's on order as we speak. Along with Daft Punks R.A.M. 2 x 180g.
Tori Amos, Boys for Pele 2 x 180g from HMV is also very good, bought at £11.99. Unfortunately, The Who's 'Who's Next' from Amazon France wasn't so hot...

Is there any others that you've found to be very good, sound quality wise?

All bar The Handsome Family are EU pressings. No problem with pressing quality either.

The King Crimson repressings over the last couple of years sound very good, as do the Kraftwerk ones.

Love - Forever Changes been a fan since 1967 the Rhino pressing excellent.
Curtis Mayfield- Superfly double album very good SQ bought mine in Sainsbury's.

Supertramps s B fast in America - a revelation . Pulled mine out a '79 UK pressing. prob never been played on a half decent hifi, and never been played for 30 yrs. washed it. Lo n behold, nostalgic and sonically superb,
so i agree with eralier recommendation.
Bob Marley - Kaya - UK pressing '77 - invoked early stoned days - and great sound too
and the big surprise is
Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club band - from the much maligned movie of the mid 70s - featuring the Bee Gees, Frampton, Sandy Farina(great voice), George Burns also Aerosmith, Earth Wind n Fire (Got to get u into my
life - wow!), credits include Larry Carlton. I was given this local (Malaysian ) pressing that i tossed to one side. Well its the huge
surprise. Enjoyable and a super pressing.

The Doors - Strange Days, Rhino Vinyl RSD release 2015 (mono)
Johnny Cash American Series (Esp IV, but buy the box set!) American Recordings 2002. Its worth seeking put the Red Vinyl edition, have demord the different colors and standard black, the red seems to be the earliest pressing and "warmest" sounding.
Green Day - American Idiot, Reprise Records 180g, Nov. 2009

I use the Discogs App whenever I'm looking at a new album. I check for Limited Pressings first, then read reviews for foriegn country pressings. Seems the earlier pressings sound noticeably better than the layer ones (these are usually the #'d or colored vinyl sets). For older vinyl, Discogs is great for saving $ on buying bad pressings as the reviewers leave more negative reviews than positive.

As you like Love - Forever Changes you might like their 1st album entitled Love and the 2nd album Da Capo. When Arthur Lee split with the original band he formed another band and released Love - Four Sail.

Pony Girl's Foreign Life. An alternative Canadian band. Awesome recording and pressing quality. Don't let the red vinyl put you off. Highly recommended. The cover design even won an award.

Little Fictions Elbow another excellent vinyl if you like Elbow of course but really like it.
