this stuff is so dangerous , few weeks back I was holding the hands of a man writhing on the floor unable to get up . utterly shocking sight . I have never seen or heard of black mamba before but oh my gosh to see the panic and spaced out eyes of this guy

it may well have been one of these guys in this report . the several ambulances in the town centre were using valuable resources to deal with this and several other incidents they said

Unbelievable. Unfortunately the random drug testing policy at work pit an end to it.

If the genuine article wasn't persecuted beyond all belief by the idiotic media, synthetic crap like mamba probably wouldn't exist.

Well, maybe. The illicit drug chemists have come up with some good stuff, though.

However, the media brainwashes so many people into thinking that just because these substances are illegal they are real trouble.

The plain fact of the matter is alcohol is far worse than most with respect to toxicity. And it's legal.

Go figure.

One little known fact about heroin. It doesn't attack any body organs. So if you can get a pure source you can live on it for decades and decades.

Whereas a life on the bottle will kill you relatively quickly.

This is very true, as long as you can dose correctly!

(it has a low therapeutic index, which is the difference between an effective dose and a fatal one, and this gets smaller with tolerance or any kind of mixing!)

In my many years driving a taxi at night I only had trouble with people who had a skinfull. The only noticeable thing with those who'd had a smoke was that sweet, peppery smell and no grief when it came to paying. I know who I preferred.

heroin causes respiratory depression and needs increasing doses as time goes on. it is true many folks have to take mst [morphine suphate tabs] but its severely constipating and diamorphine is 3 times the strength of morphine .

No one is saying it is good for you, but Wiki says this:

"Like most*opioids, unadulterated heroin does not cause many long-term complications other than*dependence*and*constipation.[48]"

Trouble is street heroin varies greatly in quality and that causes big issues.

Never been near it myself, though a school friend overdosed on some about 20 years ago. Upsetting.

I'm with you, nothing much I haven't tried but I know better than to stick needles in myself. Portugal has legalized all drugs, and they seem to be having some success with it. Spending all their money on treatment and education instead of police and prison.

Although now banned, the previously legal cannabis alternative 'Spice' is now widely used amongst the homeless and hopeless in Newcastle. It is also the drug of choice amongst the prison population and is now more available than cannabis in there according to a mate who visits his relative.

Unlike cannabis though, this stuff is extra potent and has a zombie effect on users. All too frequently I see ambulances around the Central Station which I pass through several times a week. In all my years knowing regular weed smokers, I never once saw an ambulance called. I did see a lot of weird behaviour but never any aggression like you get with users of the alternatives. The begging has taken on an urgent and intimidating way and on a couple of occasions I've stepped in to ward off their approaches to people scared shitless by Spice zombies.

I can only wonder if this stuff would have proliferated if drugs, particularly cannabis, had been legalised. I've long thought that if everyone were able to grow a few plants in their garden or greenhouse, the street value would drop and the black market would effectively die as the price fell. When I kept an allotment garden I'd regularly give away surplus produce to the other gardeners and fiends and I reckon it would be same with a bag of good weed being no more prized than a nice punnet of strawberrys or tomato.

Sadder still is that two of my pals, both otherwise law abiding people, now have criminal records which seems a terribly wasteful use of police and justice resources.

Generally I think drug use seems to be on the up, and amongst the more affluent too. Go into many city centre bars now and there will be a queue for the cubicle. For instant arsehole just add cocaine.

There have been strains/variants of Cannabis that would leave users totally obliterated and incapable of moving.

No doubt there's some strong ganja out there, and I've seen people temporarily incapacitated on it. I couldn't touch modern weed as it would put me on my arse for a while. This Spice stuff is a very different bag though. I knew some regular smokers who tried it, they didn't like it at all.

One needed to be physically restrained as he found a blade and began waving it around threatening to cut himself. I've never seen that on weed.

That's a bad argument. By the same argument ban Scotch.

There is no argument alcohol is absolutely far worse than any form of weed with regards to toxicity and behaviour when intoxicated.

Scotch is not the drink of choice for pissheads though. Well not Scotch i would recognise on my palate. Good quality whisky drunk in moderation by a relatively healthy person will likely do him good. As can wine, rather than vino.:eyebrows: These designer drugs are extremely dangerous and makers/suppliers need disposing of.
I,m not intrinsically agin legalising some drugs as long as they are controlled and licenced. Profits go to fixing all the basket cases. Crash hard on illegals(and make anything unapproved illegal) its not ideal but you rarely win a war by bans, it just starts an underground war instead. Injecting drugs have to remain illegal

User211

Likewise put less in yer joint if you're fortunate enough to get some fine high potency trippy weed.

At the end of the day the drug arguments are always circular and there is never a right solution.

I'm therefore in favour of shooting anyone intoxicated on anything.

Seems to me that from a purely pragmatic point of view distributing free weed in prison would go long way to solving many of the issues re overcrowding and violence.

Legal cannabis has been around a while now in a number of U.S states and the sky has not fallen in. They could do that here and use the revenue (which would be billions) to fund the currently diabolical mental health services - government would own the means of production and distribution so no profiteering as in the U.S, after costs you could plough 100% of funds right where they are needed. Probably be enough to have a world-class service and still be plenty left over.

Yes, when deciding how best to resolve a problem I always like to start with the optimal, if unrealistic concept of simply shooting people and then work backwards from there. I tackle many job-related issues like that. It's a logical process :D

Loud music ruins lives too, so ban all stereos over 1 watt. It could go on. In a society we have to accept that just as we will have congenital idiots among us, so too will we have folk who have tendances to get hooked on drugs etc. Ive had experience in family so know how it works. There is no easy solution, but kindness, care, firmness at times, guidence etc all help to sort folk out. It wont stop them being what they are, but will stop them doing it, because they are both aware of it and want to .

If they legalise over here the profits will just go to big business like anything else, or it will be outsourced to capita can you imagine how awful there weed would be so a black market will thrive as now and dodgy people will make money from it.

Look at the craft beer business in the UK now to see the direction the weed business would go.

Those who want strength could have, those who want flavour can have it, those who want a 'session' smoke could have it.

People would pay for something more artisanal whilst those who are happy with the equivalent of Carling could be catered for by the mainstream producers. It would be a significant business for sure.

When Colorado legalized it, the anti drug folks were having cats! Drug abuse was going to spread! Young children smoking and the streets would not be safe for all of the high driving people tearing up the pavement! But, the law changed, and nothing happened. Studies show that no more people smoke than did before. Very few people started just because it was legal. Now for some reason it's not as cool, and school kids are actually a falling demographic. And license checks, and accident studies show that there has been no decrease in traffic safety.

And now that it's been a few years, they find that prescription opioid use is down by 30%. Hard drugs like heroine and cocaine are down by 40%. And even drunken driving is down by 2%. And, that one state claimed $100 Million dollars in tax revenues in 3 months! Believe me, they have everyone's attention. Last year 6 more states passed their own marijuana laws to legalize in some way. Most with the provision that you can grow a small amount of your own.

But the Feds spend over $13 billion a year fighting weed alone, and that's big business. There are many in law enforcement getting bloody rich off of fighting against it. They want money to build a wall? There it is. $13 billion a year is way more than enough for that project. I'm in VA, and we are a Commonwealth, and I don't know what that means, but it means we are the last to do anything like legalize weed, even Washington DC has legalized it to some degree. And just because its legal, don't get too comfortable. Businesses still pee test for it, and you still must pee test to get prescriptions , and nothing there has changed either. But the tides are turning. As more change over, and all that money is dangling in their faces, they will all join in sooner or later, and perhaps the paranoid will learn that everyone who wants to smoke it is already smoking it, and legalizing it will change nothing socially. Just bring in a lot more money, put some gangsters out of work, and free up the police to do some real police work.

Indeed. Way back to Hesiod (7th century BC), who wrote that the Gods had created five ages: Gold, Silver, Bronze, Heroic and finally the Iron Age, in which he was living, and of which he tells us that he would rather not have been born than have to live at such a time.

Dunno about eras, but the fiftes were (generally) a period worth living through.

The western world was mending itself after WW2 and optimism was high. There was decently paid work for all and finding a home was not a big deal.

It was not all great though. The fashions were terrible and the music was mostly questionable. Cancer was far less common (or less diagnosed?), but largely incurable and Polio was still about.

The sixties were somewhat similar but more affluent and became quite interesting after about 1965.

One of Trump's schticks was to pull America out of foreign conflicts, that was a very popular policy. I guess he is now finding out it isn't that easy, domestic security is inextricably linked to global policy.

Even so he can only order limited action as President. A proper invasion and war would require congressional approval.

N Korea is not Iraq with lots of nice, flat desert where they can give the tanks a good workout. It is mostly mountains and urban environment. Can't really see a ground invasion happening. The Chinese might consider that as an option but no-one else will.

More likely will be a protracted bombing campaign to try and force regime change or force them into a disastrous invasion of the south, which would grant the U.S a free hand to do whatever they wanted after that.

Yea, I don't see any of that happening. The Chinese have already given official warning to NK, that if any of their nuclear fumes leave their airspace, the Chinese will make swift work of it. Funny that announcement came just 3 days after their leader's meeting with Trump. While the US flexes its muscles in the Pacific, just a show of force to discourage any NK nuclear subs from thinking they are undetected.

I saw an article the other day about a man who has escaped NK, living in SK, and making balloons to drop leaflets in NK, telling people that the US is not stealing their food, keeping them down. Apparently this is the narrative their government has been using all this time to treat their people like dirt while 99% of productivity goes toward military and the emperors riches. So all the talk about attacking the US is just to reinforce the lies they've been living all these years. To actually attack, and blow that story line is not what they want. Oh what a tangled web we weave.
