View Full Version : Has Andre been Banned?

Alex_UK

I'm sure we've all noticed Andre has gone quiet the last few days - not like him at all - his last post though, was confrontational to Marco, so I'm guessing he earned himself a ban? Hopefully that's all it is and he is ok?! Would hate to think of him freezing to death having to burn all his prog to survive!

I have had the same thoughts Alex, so Marco is he on a ban or just got the hump

Hi Alex,

With much regret (trust me) he has been banned, as unfortunately he's his own worst enemy :(

It possibly may not be permanent though, hence why you won't see banned under his name. I may leave the door a little open on this one, pending a chat with Steve and the rest of the team.

See what happened here (post #8): http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5030

I warned him to stop insulting people when he didn't agree with what some were saying on the graphic equaliser thread. Instead of backing off, however, he then threatened me (as you can see), so I had no option but to ban him as we cannot allow any threatening behaviour.

There are many things I like (and even admire) about Andre, so it's a real shame that the one thing he couldn't seem to control was his temper (which I myself of course can relate to!) It is also the reason why I undertand him more than perhaps some others do. The problem was he'd been on the edge of a ban for weeks before that for various legitimate reasons, so unfortunately him threatening me was the final straw....

Anyway we'll see what happens, so watch this space. I'm all for giving people second or even third or fourth chances *if* I can see that they're genuinely trying to learn from their mistakes and make amends, which Andre was doing very well up until he lost the plot.

However, much will depend on how Steve, and also other members of the management team, feel about allowing him back, presuming of course he'd want to come back.

Marco.

I can see why he was banned, but Andre is Andre, he posts from the heart me thinks and not from the head at times, i don't mean to be patronising to you Andre but this is my view.

Marco
10-01-2010, 01:04
I completely agree with your sentimes Jon, as Andre is a character who will always wear his heart on his sleeve, but you have to draw the line somewhere...

Let's see what happens, and we'll update this thread with our final decision in due course :)

Despite a few friendly (from my side) fencing sessions which maybe turned sour on occasion, I'll miss Andre's contributions if this is to be a permanent thing.

His taste in music & , though not broad is very deep in his field and as such, perhaps rarely equalled. Never mind the prog - he has an enviable knowledge of the vintage side of our hobby.

I understand, however, how you came to your decision.

Alex_UK

Indeed, Chris, and as someone who probably crossed swords with Andre more than most (Marco excepted, of course! ;) ) pretty big of you to say so, (hopefully that doesn't come across as patronising, it isn't meant to be!)

I don't really wan't to get into a character dissection of someone who is currently unable to post, but think Jonboy is absolutely right in that Andre posts from the heart, and you certainly can't criticise his enthusiasm for posting, as well as his knowledge of his specialised field (if we don't see him back here, I fully expect to see him on Mastermind - "and your specialised subject is?" 'Progressive Rock music prior to 1973')

Anyway, I'm banning myself from my laptop tonight (this morning) - I need some kip! :goodnight:

He doesn't so much as post from the heart as shoot from the hip and we end up treading on eggssells around him and stifling debate.

Andre's devotion to pre '73 Prog is akin to religious belief, so it's probably best not to 'go there' unless you're also of that faith.

He's a bit like me (and my son I reckon)...

I think I'm going to have to study Psychology. I reckon these skills would do VERY well on forums such as this :)

Andre, come back soon and take some chill-pills in the meantime

He's the opposite of me (in that respect anyway).

I have definite opinions about some things, but can quite accept that others' opinions may differ considerably, and since it's just opinions, there's no right/wrong yes/no answers anyway. About most things, from religion to hifi, fox hunting to speed cameras, I have no settled view either way. As Sam Goldwyn is reputed to have said: 'My indecision is final'.

I am an agnostic on everything from religion to hi-fi to cooking but I do enjoy a good wind up and often enjoy the outcome. I apologise here and now if my contribution to the graphic equaliser thread was out of hand. I can't help how I get my laughs and chuckles. My contributions though are what I believe in at that time. We are bound to be this way. It is what makes us so unique.

Joe, I fully understand why people take angle grinders to speed cameras but I would never be that revolutionary. I like your view.

There are people in this world (and I know two of them VERY well ;)) that hold very fixed ideas on things and will argue these fixed ideas to the death if necessary. Nothing wrong with that at all, but it makes for a very rocky path in life when you cannot compromise or turn away..

I'm lucky, my career brought me into contact with very many different personalities and although I find the odd one or two patronising gits a bit hard to swallow still, I can either learn from, deal with, or walk away from, many of the others now. These life skills are coming very much into use - and developing further - with the Key Stage 3 (puberty years) students I have to deal with as they don't really know where they are yet and will argue everything LOUDLY for the sake of it.

Life's too damned short and sadly it's only something you get to realise when there're probably less years in front of you than there are behind......

You'll never win an argument with a ref, unless you're Man United playing at home.
