turntable lid repair

has anyone successfully repaired one,there are loads of options on the web,chloroform keeps coming up but i reckon i'd have trouble buying it!
the lid has a clean break and should go back together,i just dont want to risk using something i don't know will work and leave a horrible glue line.
also typically what would a 70's dust cover be made of? perspex?

cheers,have you used it for repairing a tt lid,ie to glue a broken piece back on?

You did not say a piece was broken off so no cant advise , This is good at repairing cracks / splits

It dissolves the plastic and allows it to rebond. There's no adhesive involved. Mating faces are best held together under light pressure for a while. I use either insulating tape or elastic bands. Apply the solvent several times to each face for most effective results. Once dry, the join can be rubbed down with ultra fine 'wet & dry' paper used wet, then polished out with Autosol for near invisible results. Might be an idea to have a practise run on a piece of scrap acrylic plastic.

ta,thats like how chloroform works too,i wanted something that would melt rather than actually glue by adhesive

Just to be pedantic ;), it does not "melt", it dissolves the areas it is applied to as it is a solvent. Melting is (normally) a softening or liquifying caused by heating :).
