View Full Version : Wanted: Arcam Black Box, any model with TDA1541
Hi Folks, looking for an Arcam Delta Black Box, 1,2 or 3, ive been unable to find out when it switched to bitstream so Im looking for any model with the TDA1541. In fact any dedicated DAC with 1541 considered.
Alan
You can do a lot better than the Black Box DACs... Just because it has a TDA1541A in it, doesn't mean as much as the overall circuit and design. Some of them had RFI issues too. What's your budget?

Many thanks for the reply Yomanze, I just searched for RFI issues and nothing came up I could see on google, do you have any more info? Its just a project really, Im not looking to spend much, I have a Gumby.
All the best

Cheers Pieoftheday! its REALLY annoying when ebay sends you completely irrelevant links when you have a saved search then it totally misses the exact search term you saved, Ive bid on said auction so fingers crossed and all that, much appreciated!

pm sent regarding philips chip based dac..cheeers..
Well the one on ebay went for stupid money, partly my fault, the last one went for £31 and i just pushed one to £200, I really shouldnt drink when im bidding! So its the original black box upto black box 2 that have the TDA.
Still looking
Thanks
Alan
You know there are some refurbed Arcam Alpha 5 boards available on eBay. These could easily be used as a project. Just add transformers, and an SPDIF or USB front end and confident it would beat the Black Box.

Thanks Yomanze yeah Ive seen them, i have one in an old Arcam Alpha+, Ive got lots of projects as you can probably imagine so I want this one to be partly done, im just going to put an srpp valve stage in it, Probably re cap it too but thats about it for this one. Im not looking for the best of the best, my schiit Gungnir Multibit is my reference.

I Had a little chat with myself after reading your post, I was bidding on a black box from portugal which ends in a couple of hours, I changed my mind for the tenth time and bought the cheaper Alpha board at £49. Ive committed myself now so cheers for the nudge, been looking at those boards for weeks, now just got to work out a design around the Pi.

I really like the Arcam Black Box with the two TDA1541A chips inside - it's one heck of a musical performer - I own one and use it now and again.
Almost tempted sometimes just to keep it up and running longer than I do.
one on the bay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Arcam-Delta-170-CD-transport-and-Delta-black-box-3-DAC-with-remote-and-coax-/282458949329?hash=item41c3dd86d1:g:n3sAAOSw42dZCii-

That's a BB3 not a BB1 - that probably won't have TDA1541A DAC housed inside.

The one with 2 TDA 1541 dacs? Which one is that? I am leaning towards a more home brew dac now, or I was when I purchased the arcam alpha board, it looks to have better power supplies to start with and looks better for modding. It just needs an AC supply. It will probably end up in the for sale section after I've installed tubes. :)
