View Full Version : Monitor Audio R952 MD speakers.
Hmm could these be ditton 66 killers?
after reading about these and having been very impressed with the MA 852'S i put in a bid and won these yesterday.
there's not much on the web about them but what there is speaks very highly about them.

I've got the R852s Jamie and was recommended the 952s by a guy who used to be a member here . I searched for a pair of these for a long time but none ever came up . I eventually went for a pair of Tannoy 637s which I'm very happy with .
Hope you enjoy them mate :)

I deny everything! ;)
I've not heard these as far as I can recall. I'd expect them to be fairly similar to the R852 tonally.

ive had them on my ebay list for a while since hearing the 852's,there was only 2 bidders which surprised me,i dont think many people know how good the 953/852's are. id never heard of them until geoff mentioned them a while back.

My brother is still going on about the speakers he bought from you, well happy. We've just got to get his Harbeths fixed

all in hand ian,by the way what are mannas?
ive done the usual 'have a nose inside', same 1 cap design as the 852MD'S, 3.3UF poly.
Does anyone know how tight the cross brace should be? mine were loose so i've done them up finger tight to stop them vibrating.
1st impressions are good, very good.they take over where the 852'S finish, they dont have the earth shattering bass the dittons have but what is there is tight and clean, refreshing to my ears.
the mid and highs is where these excel, very nice detail,i may re fill the tweeters with some fresh ferro fluid like i did on my 852's,that seemed to make a small difference.
anyway here's some pics
internal cross brace.

The crossbrace should be tight enough to reduce panel resonance within the audio bandwidth. Hard finger tight will probably be adequate.
i got this from monitor audio today,

iam really enjoying these speakers, the soundstage is fantastic, ive found they seem to be sensitive to toe in.i shall give them a week of listening and then see how the dittons sound again.
