Best RPi Software for Audio Sound Quality?

I know that a lot of the audio software for the RPi shares many common features but has there been any rigorous testing as to whether there are differences in SQ across them? I have tried a few packages and I cannot really detect any differences in SQ.

I think they all pretty much use the same linux modules, and drivers, so the SW will have limited effect on the SQ IMHO...
