Hi Folks,

I'm building a C-Moy (http://tangentsoft.net/audio/cmoy-tutorial/) headphone amp for a mate which is designed around a OPA2132PA. Simple question; Is there a better chip I can use without a complete redesign?

Cheers...

Nobody? :(

In such a simple circuit OPA2132 is a very balanced compromise. There are plenty of better opamps for driving headphones, unfortunately almost none of these will be entirely happy in the C-Moy circuit without some modifications.

Hi Alex,

I've had the OPA2604 suggested so far.

But "some modifications" is not exactly out of the question... So, please feel free to elaborate! :)

Cheers...

IMHO, OPA2604 is just not as good as OPA2132/2134. I would suggest a plain NE5532 or a more posh LM4562/LME49720. These are available in DIL8 and will not require modifications to the circuit. There are other interesting alternatives but they are not as easily tamed and/or not available in DIL8 package - for example LM6172, AD826 or THS4032/62. These are much faster and will need input filtering/protection, output filtering and better power supply arrangements.

for example LM6172

Shit, that's fast! :stalks:
