3d Television

There is talk that 3D television will be available soon, viewable with an HD box.
Having watched Avatar a few days ago and enjoyed it, I can believe it will add to the viewing experience.
Would you buy a new tv to watch it?

I will only buy an Autostereoscopic TV. It should be ready soon. Polarization or AFS (alternate-frame sequencing) are not interesting, imho.

Can't use a 3D TV as me eyes don't allow it and the old brain adjusted itself to my eyes decades ago and cannot change apparently.

HD I can understand, though most HD I have seen looks like hyper reality to me..i.e not natural..so I am happy to watch in standard def and on a CRT TV.

3D TV :doh: Why ? Why must the wheel be re-invented again and again and again...simple greed. Do we need all of this guff imho no. All we are doing is allowing ourselves to be exploited/milked again. New software requires a new screen and so it goes on.

Will I go 3D ?..:scratch: Not until its life size 3D holographic images swirling round the room i.e a holo-deck like in Star trek...until then I will stick with what I have. Anyway considering the amount of crap on TV (what a load of crap on TV over Christmas...supposed to be the best...I don't think so) do we need it in 3D as well ?

I'm with you buddy, like you say HD looks to detailed on most 1080 tv's (LCD at least) what possible advantage is 3d in the average lounge?

I actually think the 720P on my Panasonic 42" Plasma is the best resolution - Sport in HD especially looks very realistic without being over the top. I have no intention of getting a 3D TV, but then I had no intention of getting an HD TV, Blu-Ray and Sky HD until I saw how good it looked...

At the moment, afaik there are some (small) problems of headaches for some people watching autostereoscopic displays. But, I guess, these things will get fixed when the product is ready to hit mass market.

Philips (which has a commercial model http://innowave.blogspot.com/2009/01/philips-leads-autostereoscopic-3d-hdtvs.html ) is a bit ahead.

I googled it after your mention and it does look very interesting indeed. It's what I would say were 'do-able' as far as mass-market is concerned. 3D TV will not take off while it requires the watcher to sit stock still, or on their own, or in the dark, or wear some silly glasses. The Autostereoscopic approach seems to sidestep all these issues. Good luck to it.
