Forum communities can be a funny thing. Am interested in what your bug-bears might me. Here's a few of mine
* Cyclical posting, where members throw in repetitive posts such as "did you do that comparison blind?'
* No response to threads to say thanks or whatever when people ask advice, and have seen the thread that they started.
* Writing off posts due to 'superior experience' when the original point resonates with other member experiences
* Flame wars, suppose this links to cyclical arguments
Your thoughts?

The lack of regular members welcoming newbies. Who welcomes the new folks ? Mostly the mods. Frankly AoS is supposed to be a friendly community and folks who join are often looking to join in and become part of it. So are they welcomed by the members ? Often ? Nope. Sometimes ? Yes But mostlyits the mods that welcome folks. I think its part of our role to do so but how as a newbie would you feel if only mods welcomed you. Not very welcome maybe. Keep in mind we were all new once and often those welcoming posts set the mood for how you feel about a forum, and its members.

As a newish member myself, I do on occasion welcome new people, but not too frequently as I don't want to be seen as trying in ingratiate myself into the community.
I have found this forum to fairly friendly in line with many forums,
there is always a clique or nucleus of members that post and comment amongst themselves, and to a degree after a welcome new members are left on the sidelines, with limited response to posts.
I also accept that many members have a different outlook on what constitutes to be good manners, but we all come from different backgrounds so, I guess, it's to be expected.
Not unique to this forum I may add, whether sound (music) based or any other.

New posts doesn't seem to work properly lest you log in. Really annoys me. Seems to be a vBulletin thing cos it happens elsewhere.

[1] I don't think we get too much of that here
[2] Yes that does annoy me - especially if I have gone to some time and trouble to research and answer a technical query. If the same member continues to fail to acknowledge the advice given to them, then I'm afraid I will ingore any future queries from them. :(
[3] I would hope that none of us here are arrogant enough to do that, though I think I know to whom you might be referring (:eyebrows:)
[4] Again, I hope the Moderators are sufficiently diligent to quickly 'nip this in bud'.

Well, yeah, but it doesn't. I'm using Microsoft Edge, but the same is true in IE11.
It is sporadic. Sometimes it lists quite a few posts, sometimes none, but never as many as when I have logged in. Applies to What's Best Forum too. Pink Fish is so shite the option isn't there.

I get this too. I stay logged in and cannot see all new posts, if I go to certain areas of the forum I find posts that are new, but do not appear if you hit the new posts tab. Can never see my new posts.
As a newish member myself, I do on occasion welcome new people, but not too frequently as I don't want to be seen as trying in ingratiate myself into the community.
I prefer to sidle in too forums quietly without drawing too much attention to myself. I'm not mithered about being 'welcomed' or 'introducing myself'. Maybe I'm too curmudgeonly for AoS.
This isn't a pet forum, but a bug-bear would certainly not be my first choice as a pet.

What does the bit in brackets refer to? Of course being the owner has its perks, just as in any other area of life, where one person ultimately has the final say, in terms of what happens. That's entirely normal.
As I've said before, if anyone else wants to enjoy similar privileges, then they're free to start their own forum, stump up the costs and see how they they get on! :ner:

My biggest bugbear?
Folks who join forums without first reading the rules/ethos of the site, and the general 'tone' of the place, to see if *they* will fit in ok, and then moan afterwards when they don't like the way things are, or discover that the established mindset conflicts with their deeply-ingrained 'belief system'! ;)
There seems to be a gross miscomprehension that it's up to the forum concerned to 'accommodate' them (and their, to put it politely, 'challenging personality quirks'), when the very opposite applies.
It's up to YOU to fit in with whatever forum you join, respect the way things are and get on amicably with those in charge, not IT/THEM to fit in with you! :exactly:

That's a shame Gary, I was new about two years ago and just got stuck in giving out bad info and awful advice 😂
I think it's easy to be intimated by the vast and mainly superior knowledge on here.
I try and welcome new members too.

Guess you will always have friends speak among each other. Its normal, even in conversations and parties. We try to keep everyone in the loop but it doesnt alway work i will admit

You tend to get back what you put in, so to speak, in my opinion. The greater a member's input and involvement, the more interaction they will achieve with others. There's no trait of ignoring of people, it's just that some have topics and views more in common with each other.

Bug-bear ....
Reviews or comments about kit that say something along the lines of "reveals all the detail in the music".
Rubbish - there's always more information to extract from recordings!
Just say that it's more than you've heard before. ;)
Another bugbear of mine, along similar lines to the last one, is folks who join forums with the selfish intention of simply getting out if it what *they* want, and giving nothing back in return but aggro, usually when they don't get their own way, or aren't allowed to behave how they think they're 'entitled' to behave! :doh:
Or those who blatantly disregard a forum's rules/ethos, and see registering as an opportunity to vent or rant about 'life's injustices', or target specific individuals whom they dislike, 'poking' them to see how they'll react, all in the name of some sad form of 'entertainment' - and rather hilariously, moan when they end up being banned for it, then afterwards proceed to blame everyone else but themselves for why that happened! :mental:
Another amusing (and ironic) thing is how some self-confessed argumentative and egotistical people [hello DQ], who always want to be right, when they encounter someone else who shares similar traits, and ultimately fall out with them, it's always the other person's argumentative personality and huge ego that's the problem, not theirs!! :lol:
So instead of seeing the fallout as resulting simply from a gross personality clash, in the way of the classic 'irresistible force meets an immovable object', the blame is always placed on those they were arguing with, or the mods or owner of the forum, who when eventually sick and tired of having to deal with a selfish tit, hell-bent on causing as much annoyance as possible, and showing no concern whatsoever for others, gives them the (well-deserved) boot!
Honestly, sometimes you just can't make it up or comprehend how blinkered some folk are, seemingly possessing an acute inability to look beyond the environs of their insular little bubbles :D

Precisely! I'm afraid that's just life, and folk should accept that, rather than, as often happens, wrongly seeing it as the existence of a 'clique'.
