Hi from Bulgaria guys,
I'm new for vinyl but getting addicted to the sound.
My system is Technics 1210mk2 which I would like to make it sound as good as possible without any hard mods.

Hello Dimitar. Welcome to AOS.

Tell us what music you listen to and about the rest of your Hi-Fi.

You've come to the right place for Technics info. Have a look through the Techiepedia sub-forum in the Analogue Arts section.

If you have any plans in mind for the rest of your system, we'd like to hear about them.

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Straight to my first question.
For now I consider Denon DL-301 MK2. From what I read, the sound of this cartridge will suit me best. I have Ifi phono 2, so the settings can be made to match the cartridge.

My problem is, I wonder what headshell to use with the 1210 stock tonearm, because it's effective mass is 12g, and with the stock headshell it will resonate at 9Hz, but if I put something 5g heavier, it may go below 8 and even below 7 which is not good.

I consider:
1. AT-MG-10
2. Sumiko HS-12
3. Oyaide HS-TF Carbon Fiber Headshell.
4. Keep the stock headshell.

Also intend to buy achromat mat for 1210. I wonder will it reduce the hum from the power transformator of the turntable.

Regards

Well, I like dj hits from the 80s and 90s. :)
And recently got into vinyl, so I'm collecting records now :)

The DL-301 will work fine in the Technics arm. It may be fashionable to change headshells, but if you find the standard one suits the cartridge, there's no real need to change this.

Well, I'm not sure of the quality of the stock headshell. The other options definetely looks better. And with better wires.

Other than that, 1210 is unique turntable, very stable 33 1/3, I doubt there are many other TTs that can be so stable. and this actually is the most important thing in any turntable.

I measured the noise from the transformator, with AT120E on top of vinyl. It's around 108Hz, and around -70db which is almost not possible to hear it if the vinyl is playing. But I wonder, with MC cartridge.. maybe it will be more, so in this case I will have to think for external power supply, but I don't want to change anything inside 1210, because I'm affraid it could lose its main strengt, that super stable 33 1/3 :)
