I usually just use old CD players for spare parts but this one's a winner. $10 was a steal for this one. PCM54HP DAC, NOS mod already installed, no wobble in the transport, and it had a Too Short CD stuck in it. It plays CD-Rs which is odd for a player from 1986. Sound is stellar. The transport was even locked.

Now all I need to do is clean it off, re-cap it and sell it to an audiofool.

I still don't understand my people love these old players. They start skipping if you look at them funny. The bass is making this one skip.

I just put the laser out of a crap boombox I found in the dumpster in it and it stopped skipping. $20 toy boomboxes have better lasers than these old things.

It might have a Technics badge on it but it is just mass market fodder. Or was.

The JVC changer I just got running is is putting it to shame. You'd be amazed what people are paying for the mass market fodder over here now. I think it's ridiculous. It's really mass market fodder now with the new laser.

Nobody wants changers though.

LOL that JVC is a proper bit of kit no wonder it sounds better. And the display is the correct colour for a CD player display. Full marks.

The changers only cost $5 at the Thrift Store. It sounds great though. I'd buy more of them if I could sell them. I usually just turn them into DACs. This one didn't take much to get going. I think it's a keeper.

That's how I afford my habit. I can probably get at least $150 out of the Technics, and I'd be lucky to get $20 out of the JVC. The JVC is better in every way. It just has that 6 round mag that nobody wants. It has a single drawer too.
