Like the tone of posts on these forums so glad to be able join here. I have a bit of a passion for solo piano music - just love the instrument though could never play the compositions I like listening to. Piano sound is difficult to reproduce properly so I have been through several sets of loudspeakers in my quest for good piano sound in my living room. I'm currently playing with room acoustic measurement software and a reference microphone with the aim of finding out whether applying modest acoustic treatments will improve sonics appreciably.

Hi Mark, welcome on board.
Some speakers sound 'nice' but reproducing accurate / natural timbre and texture is a whole different ball game and for me is what defines a 'great' speaker / set up.
That said, I also believe that what you are after would be achieved with a combination of the above coupled with a cart that is good at that.
Speaker wise, I have my ideas, cart wise It would be one of the Shibata Ortofons all day long, but that's me I'm known to be a bit of a fan boy in that regard :lol:

Anyway, you may not even be into vinyl replay ?
What were the speakers you've been through ?
What is your system ? or what route are you hoping to take ?
We'd love to know. Music wise is it just piano based that you are into ?

Hello Mark. Welcome to AOS.

Piano music can be beautiful. A bit of Delius or Satie is very nice.

I agree, getting speakers that sound good with piano is tricky. Have you listened to any Sonus Faber speakers? They tend to do this quite well.
