Find a PC and download iTunes. Plug in old iPhone and let it take a backup. Plug in new phone and restore backup. Job done. It'll prompt you all the way.

I have a 21" iMac , plugged the phone in via the lead and it did nothing  looked in the gibbons and it said no devices paired

Doh

Sometimes the best advice is hard to hear. Like music on an iPhone without a 3.5mm socket!

Settings, iCloud there switch on what you want to save from old phone e.g. Photos, contacts etc then select Backup now. This saves these to your iCloud(online storage space), usually 5GB free, then when you switch on the new phone it should ask if you want to restore from iCloud. This will import everything to the new phone.....in theory :D
