Sci Fic or Horror

Which do you perfer and why
I tend to to have a slight preference towards horror myself
I am really looking forward to Being Human For me a great combination of good stories lines with a touch of darkness humour and glimpses of humanity I also enjoying True Blood not quite up to same standards of Being Human but still enjoyable

I don't think I could decide - with horror, I'm from the era where American Werefolf in London, The Exorcist, The Omen, Nightmare on Elm Street, Poltergeist etc. where "cutting edge" but for me the genre faded away and became all about effects. More recently, films like The Ring have brought me back into enjoying horror.

But then I love the Star Wars saga (I was 8 when the original came out, so you can understand how that would grab a young boy's imagination) The Matrix (though they should only have made the first one) Highlander, Alien, Blade Runner, The Terminator - all classics.

Nope, I can't decide between the two!

The scariest thing about the film is that you don't have any real idea as to what the creature looks like until late on, by which time you've already soiled your undergarments.

In short this is pure British electronics of the highest order. The musicians involved - Delia Derbyshire, Brian Hodgson, David Vorhaus and Dudley Simpson all worked for the Radiophonic Workshop.


For me, those dudes made 60s and 70s sci-fi much of what it was, giving it a special magic that today's sci-fi pretenders could only dream of!

I've got a few of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop recordings - stunningly weird and wonderful (not to mention more than a little creepy)! :eyebrows:

I watched all of the above apart from the Ring, the horrors had to be watched because you had to when your a teenager to prove yourself but in realality they scared the shit out of me and still do, i prefer scifi any day, love Star wars and one of my favorites is The Fifth Element, corny i know but good fun

The thing that really annoys me about The Day of the Triffids is WHY? do they have to mess with the original story. It is fantastic as was, as are most of John Wyndham's books/stories as originally written by him. Global warming preaching again :doh::( sick of this truly sick of it). Must admit that while so far its a poor adaptation...there are bits that have been quite good. The Triffids are okay...similar in design to the first film. Which was much better than the last BBC version/mini series. However the great visuals are not captured here in the current mini series, the deserted streets of London etc...done better by....oh what was it called :scratch: Few Days After (nearly right title errrrrrrrrr). Opening of that is nicked strait out of John Wyndham book.

Anyway I will watch part 2 in the hope it gets better....but I doubt it.

Which do I prefer ummmmmmmmmmmmm:doh: either if done really well and that sadly is becoming a rare thing these days imho. Frankly I am sick of stalk and slash crap/torture porn etc.....come on someone make a scary film that does not involve teenagers partying getting drunk and "Oh lets not go into the basement"/woods/deserted old building etc errrrrrrrrrrrrrr:steam: done to death.

I too watched The Tomorrow People...sadly very little of it looks good today..and the re-make a few years ago was dire.

Well part 2 of The Day of the Triffids was a bit better than part 1. The main thing of significance was that digital won't be the format of choice, but Reel to Reel and Vinyl will be Yepppeeeeeee :rave:
