Hi Paul,

Welcome to AoS! Nice introduction and an interesting background you've got in hi-fi. I think what you do will interest a lot of folks here, as on AoS we're big on vintage hi-fi and tape!

However, as you're in the trade and advertising your websites, etc, you'll need to open a trade account, in order to discuss matters relating to Reel Audio or Baldwin HiFi.

Therefore, please send me a visitor message (or PM) and I'll explain how to go about opening a trade account :)

Marco.

Welcome Paul

I guess you might have some stories from the old days when Goodmans and such were the kings?

Hi Paul. Welcome from me too.

Your site has some interesting stuff.

Thanks for saying Hi guys - I have some difficulty traversing the site - I was invited to join, in order to comment on some power amplifiers I make from one of your members.

I have been unable to make comments on http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?49276-Quad-update due to my lack of editing rights.
Marco - an admin - has now emailed me to say I need to run through another load of hoops to join this group as I am TRADE!?

I am retired - so an old bloke.
I am still entertaining myself repairing and making specialised analogue equipment for similarly minded HiFi people.
My skills and expertise seem to have excluded me from being able to comment on any of the blogs and posts on the site.

A bit put out really.

Hi Fi is a pleasure. This site should also be a pleasure - yet up till now has wasted over 2 hours of my time trying to register, login, traverse etc.

You may be in business but if you are not here to sell anything related to your business then you do not need a trade account.

If you can post on this thread then you can post on the other thread, I think it is possible you tried to post whilst not being logged in. There is no other reason why you cannot post that I am aware of. Give it another go.

You wont be able to edit posts unless its your own and within a certain period. you should be able to post on the thread though or any other thread.. Only mods can edit other peoples posts etc. . Marco is the owner/boss, so what he says goes.

Hi Paul.

If you just wish to respond to posts and add your comments to them, use the 'reply with quote' facility at the bottom right of each post. You can then edit the quoted content from somebody's earlier post and add your own reply.

And you should not need to log in on each visit, as long as you tick the box by the 'sign in' to tell the system to remember you.

Explain to Marco your trade intentions. He will decide what is appropraite. Marco is the site owner by the way.

Yes, if you tried to 'edit post' instead of 'reply' or 'reply with quote' that wouldn't work either.

You need to make about half a dozen posts before some privileges/facilities kick in.

Welcome to AoS Paul,

I'm sure your experience will be quite valuable here as we have several members who are fans of Revox gear and of Quad gear.

Sad to see another great British audio manufacturer fall by the wayside and end up making in-car audio systems or whatever. I expect you have some interesting anecdotes to recall from your time with Goodmans.

Enjoy the forum
Barry

Hi Paul,

Sorry you feel that way. On a site like this, there has to be some form of structure in place to make it work. Most people manage to use the forum without any issues, but we're here to help if we can! :)

You are clearly in the hi-fi trade (as your websites indicate) and as you say by being involved in "repairing and making specialised analogue equipment", which I presume you don't do for nothing? ;)

Therefore, by linking here to your website(s), and discussing what you do, you are effectively promoting yourself and your services, which *technically* requires a trade account. If you'd simply joined the forum as 'neverfinished0', and posted as Paul, the audio enthusiast, without linking to your website(s) and mentioning your current business, then you wouldn't have been asked to register for a trade account.

However, so that you can comment on the Quad thread in question, without encountering any further posting restrictions (resulting from being a new member with limited permissions), I have upgraded your account to 'Registered User' status, which will allow you to do as you require. Hope this helps
