Another DIY Record Cleaning Machine

Hi all

Just finished my DIY record cleaning machine

All nice and simple, (Just like me ;) )

Made from off cuts of MDF and uses an external vacuum cleaner

Turntable Platter & Bearing was from an old Pioneer PL-12 bought from ebay

Turntable motor is a Hi-Torque 20RPM motor bought from ebay

Plumbing is just standard Overflow plumbing 21.5mm IIRC

Record protector strips again from ebay and sold as replacements for the Pro-Ject RCM

Two sockets on the back, one supplies 12v via an adaptor to the motor via a DPDT switch on the front wired to provide polarity change to reverse the motor direction, the other is switched via a SPST swith and is used to switch the Vacuum cleaner on/off.

I made two cleaning arms, one for 12inch and the other for 7inch records

Cleaning solution is the standard 20/80 IPA/Distilled water with Wetting agent, cleaning brushes are a commercial Hogs Hair sold for cleaning records and clean paint pads when extra scrubbing is needed.

Probably cost around around £30 all in to build and does a really good job.

Hope it inspires everyone to build one as they don't need to be complicated.

I'm with Audio Al. Looks decent, but trailing sockets on it would lower the risk of electrocution without breaking the bank surely?

Nice, mine has a mains lead out to a wall socket and the vac plugs into the same socket, just have to switch the vac on before or after the rcm. I use a small diameter sub platter with a cut down rubber mat and weight to stop slipping, that way the cleaned record surface doesn't touch the mat and pick up dirt.
Similar to you I bought a 15rpm motor from eBay.
