View Full Version : Old School Dalek!
Is this a prototype of one of Neil's buddies?

:D
The "lights" on the Dalek dome are supposed to be emotional-state dampers or something similar, to help dissipate the anger that all Daleks feel. Apparently, Daleks could explode with rage before these "lights" were fitted. No doubt Neil will correct and extend what I've just said :peace:
What was the pictured valve used for? I've seen some equally whacky ones at the local WW2 Radar station at Bawdsey..

Dunno TBH.
Apparently it's the equivalent to half a 6SN7.

Interesting, never seen one of those before. What were they used for....2 anode caps. Maybe Anthony will know.

A DIY RCA 800 Job i nicked from this Chinese dudes blog, hope he don't mind like..
Wow looks like it came from Forbidden Planet
OK, go on... someone tell me how a thread about daft things that look like Daleks has found it's way into The Artist's Palette !!!!
I'm bloody sure I didn't open it in here!
The Artist's Palette Cables, stands, mains set-up: your hi-fi's foundations. Also info on tubes and headphones.
Essentially, de fings being discussed here are tubes, no? ;)
Therefore the thread was interesting from that point of view, so I wanted it archived in the correct section along with the other info we've currently got on tubes...
If the thread had just been about Daleks, with no connection to tubes, it would have remained in Abstract Chat - simples! :)
Marco.

hi all,
at first glance it looks like a high frequency single triode meant to run at higher than normal voltages, [probably for transmitter work] if you look carefully you will see that one top cap is connected to the grid, and the other appears to be connected to the anode, when your dealing with high frequency even the smallest amount of capacitance caused by bringing the leads out through the base would affect its performance, so they bring the grid wire out through the shortest posible path.
the anode is also brought out through the glass on this one simply because [IMHO]the base wouldnt be suitable for the high voltages [pulses ?]this valve is probably meant to work at.
regards,anthony,TD...
