Is it worth doing this on the Techie MK5g ?
If so what are the caps to upgrade and with what / how please.

I recapped my old 1210 mk 2 but I should imagine the caps are pretty much bang upto date. You could maybe try something with better tolerances such as Charcroft.

Thanks Andy, I thought they might be ok being the newer 5g. I might well leave well alone unless convinced otherwise. Won't be too long now before the SR7 and triple stage regulator modules are done.

Did you ever do the make new bearing and the base plate?

Yep done the lot Andy, arm, hybrid ceramic bearings, ebony armband, Yannis tonearm cable, MN bearing, baseplate and ETP Platter.
Just paid off for Pauls SR7 and triple stage regs then that's me mission accomplished with my Techie.

Recapped my 1200Mk2, all old electrolytic caps was within -10..+5% tolerance.

Is that good or bad for those of us who don't know :)

That's very good for electrolytics. Many have tolerances of + - 20% or worse.

-40 to +85% only 30 odd years ago in many instances... Other than bipolar caps in speaker crossovers electrolytics are not used for anything where tolerance even matters. They are normally chosen just to have "more than sufficient" capacitance for the job...

The biggest issue with recapping is you need to match other params like ESR as well. You cannot just sprinkle your favorite cap all over the place :D

I did mine a couple of years ago, but I am still not 100% sure I did not screw something up.

That's why Paul hynes did mine. :)
