View Full Version : Three Screws and a Plate
I am home after falling of my pedal cycle on Monday after and encounter with black ice.
Road conditions have been treacherous in Southampton in the last few days. I was in very good company! The Othorpedic Wards in Southampton expect 10 accident admissions a day - last days have been 30+, 50+, 80+. Persons and vehicles were falling and skidding all over the place. The surgeons are operating Christmas Day to catch up.
Well, I broke my hip and as I said have three screw and a plate holding me together.
I cannot praise too highly the staff of Southampton General Hospital.
Have a very Happy Christmas to all.

Just noticed this - bloody hell Brian that is terrible I hope you have a speedy recovery!
Now you will be forced to spend a while sitting down resting, while listening to your favourite music!
I too have only just spotted this (having been away from my PC for a few weeks and am now wading through 16 pages of posts).
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Regards
Staples out a couple of days ago. Incision only two inches long, Remarkable what that can do these days.
My broken hip now feels a lot more secure, which means I am entering the dsnger zone. Without the constant prompting of pain it's easy to forget and put too much weight on the wrong leg.
Now here is a tale from a friend. She has the sort of job where she can do lot from home; so home she stayed to avoid the continuing treacherous roads. Then she fell down her own stairs and broke her wrist! Hey Ho!!

Back in 1977 at the tender age of eighteen I had a massive motorcycle smash. I received compound fractures of my left femur, tibia and fibula. I also got, for my sins, a smashed collar bone, damaged ribs and a damaged left hand. My point...??? You are in very good company. I fully sympathise with your immense pain and anxiety. It never ceases to amaze me just how much damage the human body can sustain and still bounce back and just get on with things. ;)
I have a steel plate and eight screws holding my left leg together and it can occasionally be fun at airports and seaports.

They tell me my three screws will not trigger airport security. I will wait and see.
Even without the screws I can strip near naked and still trip the alarm. I get frisked as often as not.
Why? An electric personality?
