Hi there , I've been an audiophile ever since I bought my first system at 17 years old approx.(IIRC) Slowly over the years I've added and subtracted various pieces like cassette decks ,various turntables ,CD players etc. This is the system that 90% of the time I'm playing vinyl through :

>British Built Audiolab 8000Q & 8000M
>Musical Fidelity V90lps phono amp (just acquired recently)
>Rega Planar 2 with a Bias2 cartridge , Tangospinner Canaro dual belt kit , Acrylic platter , Michael Lim underslung counterweight on a RB250 arm.
>and a dusty Marantz CD player.
>DIY floorstanding 2 way kit from Madisound in the USA which is based around Eton drivers, 8' woofer and 1' Soft dome tweeter .Maple Veneered MDF Heavy as hell !
>Kimber Kables
For the most part I'm pretty pleased with the sound but as always upgrading is in the future at some point .
I'll probably look at a cartridge upgrade first then , TT motor upgrade then add a TTPSU .

As for music I listen to a lot of different styles , except country and classical . I'm partial to rock & roll , blues , jazz ,acoustic guitar .

Hello Brian. Welcome to AOS.

That's a tidy system you've put together there. What new cartridge were you considering?

Have a look around the site. You'll find every aspect of HI-Fi is covered and there's music interest too.

Feel free to join in with the chat.

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Hey thanks it works for me . I'm debating over cartridges recently , a couple of directions I've come up with . Either an Ortofon 2m Blue , Rega Elys 2 or send my Supex 900 Mk4 in to get a new
cantilever and diamond put on it . I've had this Supex for over 25 years sitting in a box after I had an 'OH SHIT' moment and destroyed the canitlever after only 2 weeks of ownership.

Shame you busted the Supex and yes, it probably is worth having repaired.

However, as you are obviously able to use a low output MC in your system, here's a thought. The Goldring Eroica LX does not cost that much more than the Ortofon 2M Blue and the Eroica is a really nice sounding MC. It has a vibrant and musical presentation and is very enjoyable. Something of an unsung hero, as it's not a cartridge that occurs to most people. A bit of a bargain really.

Hey thanks for the reply , I have heard some good things about that series from Goldring . That is another avenue for sure , I'm not aware if there's a dealer around my area where I can hear it . Maybe I'll have a look see . I've used an MC Ortofon before and sounded pretty good , it unfortunately lost the tip through some unknown accident.

Went an ordered an Elys2 today . I figure it'll be an easy swap , no fussing around with shims for VTA .

So , the Elys 2 is a definite upgrade over the Bias 2 , more slam with the bass and drums and a clearer window into the soundstage.Happy :)
