If you already have a Benz Micro - get the GS phono stage

Thanks for the response you guys.

They would be replacing a Project phonobox DS and although it is a Benz Micro, it is only the cheapie Silver high output.

I could stretch to a Reflex M but that may be a bit of an overkill in my system

An Arkless 640P will easily beat the Graham Slee and for around half the price....;) Check out reviews if you doubt it....

Have you seen the price of the 10XV now? £500!!! It's way too expensive and sonics haven't got better - it used to compete with the DL110 in quality and price back in the day. Just sayin...

Denon should be commended for their approach to pricing cartridges. I know they're a big company, which helps, but in today's money their carts are not much different to how they were decades ago, inflation accounted for.

Yes David I had noticed. There is no way I am paying 500 quid for something that was 375 a month or so back. I will not support such profit making. Looks as though it could be the Slee after all. So, Era Gold V or Reflex M...?

I really couldn't agree more. Price hike should equal quality hike, if it doesn't then it is just profiteering.

I've owned both. I have a suspicion the Era Gold V is the more musical unit and I loved mine while I had it. The Reflex M offers a tiny bit more detail, but to be honest, They are pretty close. The PSU1 is worth having, but both sound very good on the basic power supply.

What price do you ask for your modded 640P Jez?

Have you got a nice product photo you can post of it by any chance?

£225. You need a donor unit of course. It looks the same as a standard one externally... apart from one of the rear switches is no longer fitted. The latest reviews are here on aos and in it the reviewers preferred it to a £850 Primare R32...

Do you supply them finished, or do we need to supply you with the donor unit?

You need to supply a donor unit. 640P or 651P, working or not...

As Jez suggests you can do a lot better for the money! Go for cottage industry with reliable build IMHO. I would recommend the Vista Audio Phono 1 mk2, but haven't heard the Arkless unit.

Graham Slee runs a home loan program, so you could borrow both and see which you prefer?

I've used the Graham Slee loan programme and can testify it works well. Just costs you a bit of postage which isn't unreasonable.

Paying for a finished production item is certainly not paying over the odds especially when that item is a quality product which I know the Slee products are. I have also had experience of items that are 'cobbled' together in someone's garden shed and they are usually no comparison. Of course this is not to suggest that the Arkless unit is such but there are no publicity photo's, no website and no examples for loan.

If you are interested in the Graham Slee products Shaun, the loan scheme is available to their forum members.

Really? I don't have one!

There IS a loan unit available.

photos? I refer you to every photo of A Cambridge 640P or 651P for photos.

Sound quality? Nothing under £700 comes close. It's nearest rival Is the Dynavector P75 @ said £700. MANY units at 600 - £1000 do not compare.... As I said, read the reviews. It will thrash the Slee units.

If glossy publicity photos etc are what floats your boat well that's another matter...

Apologies, I have just seen your Arkless website

Bizarrely I have have just had a telephone enquiry during which I was told "I've just seen your website"! The guy described it and told me the address which sounded over the phone something like www.arklesselectronics.vitrina.com this doesn't exist so I must have misheard... I've had a quick google myself and couldn't find anything but if anyone does find an Arkless Electronics website then please let me know the URL. From what the guy said it does advertise my services, in slightly dodgy language as if English is not the first language of whoever put it there and there is apparently a "to contact us send comments here" bit which does not link up to me at all. It has nothing to do with me!

A quick google search throws up a page on hi-fi pig
http://hifipig.com/directory/1364/arkless-electronics-2/
clicking the link takes you to a page which is an advert for related links but it could be mistaken for your homepage.

BTW, you should have a website.

Please put the url here Dave. I have no website and no amount of googling finds one.... for me anyway!

I did have one which was www.arklesselectronics.com but within a day or two of the domain registration fee being due someone had bought the name... all I get if I click on that URL is a message saying anyone wanting to buy the domain name should contact blah blah. I can see links to here, pfm, the wam. yellow pages, thompson local, hifi pig etc etc etc but no website...

I'll put one up again if the hybrid pre amp starts to take off. AOS is my ONLY portal to the world and the only place my products and services are available at present.

I can't see any benefit to not having a website. The only disadvantage I can see to having one is the cost. Not sure what the cheapest option is but I'm sure it would be worth it.

I have never claimed any advantage in not having a website. Cost is a major factor... "but it's only £150 Jez!"... that's a small fortune to me!
The main other factor is I'm pushing my products rather than servicing these days and I want to have more than just the Arkless 640P on the site. I have many other products yes but they are all to custom order only and so not really suitable for pushing on a web site. Hence waiting till I have the hybrid pre amp range available.

For the moment I'd love to see this mythical website I apparently already have but only some can see! Links please if anyone else finds it!

Yes, that's the address and it is just a load of links. Pity you didn't renew the domain name as it is now owned by some sort of scam. You could always register arkless.co.uk
and wait till you can afford a website.

I don't know much about these things but I don't believe it costs much to register the domain name.

I thought you said you had seen a fully functioning website?
I already own the co.uk etc I think... I did anyway... It doesn't bother me.
This "potential customer" who rang me earlier described in detail a website he said he was looking at as we spoke and according to his description it did indeed sound like one although with very bad grammar etc. I asked him to spell out the name of the web site and it contained the word "vitrina" after arklesselectronics according to him... I'm starting to think it was some tosser being a wind up merchant now...

Thought it was, at a cursory glance but obviously not.

You should make sure you have the co.uk name registered because it is important to your business. Far as recall, it only costs a few Pounds to register and then no bugger can use it.

Yeah, usually a fiver or so.
