A strange thing happened to me yesterday and I can't explain it..

I was reaching down to switch off my system at the mains block and I heard a click from the rack that sounded like a relay. Each time my arm went near the block or away from it, there was a click. I positioned myself between the block and the rack to check it was.coming from there and it was. I moved my arm back and forth at different time intervals to make sure it wasn't a cooling noise and the clicks always coincided. Unfortunately when I moved close enough to the rack to try and work out which compenent was making the noise the angle of my arm no longer caused the clicks. When I moved back it started again. But after 30 seconds it stopped completely. Bizarrely half my components were on and half off but the only things I knew that had loud relays were my 2 amps which were switched off. The only out of the ordinary thing was a very bright sunbeam shining on the rack. So what was happening here any ideas?

Yeah, maybe a ligament or gas in a joint. Can even get it in your ear. If not then hard to think what else it is unless you were actually touching something as you moved. Bad power connection etc

Cant be that it was my arm to the right and the clicks were coming from the rack on the left,a distinctive relay click exactly matching the movement of my arm. I meant to say my arm blocked the sunbeam as I moved it so was wondering if there were any opto electrical switches or relays in some gear.

As I found it so weird I did the movement 30-40 times to investigate the direction it was coming from and make sure it wasn't my imagination or something else.

Actually floorboards could be a possibility if it moved loose power cable connection at the back of one component.

But I tried repeating the movement slightly differently and it.didnt happen it was dependent on the exact location of my arm.

i get the odd day when my turntable sounds off,not as dynamic as it normally sounds,i had one such day yesterday.
i dont know why it happens? temperature perhaps? who knows?
now in the past this would have me running to the alignment protractor to check my set up or start mucking around with VTA etc.
since owning the 2m black and it taking 2 days to set up right,i tend to think 'oh well its an off day' just leave it!

I've figured it out!!! It wasn't the amp it was the dac. I didn't realise it also had a relay switch. It recently seemed to lose the signal intermittently with the RCA. It was fine if I closed the curtains. It seems the light was reflecting off the white wall and into the optical socket. Hopefully if I can find one of those little stoppers they come fitted with I can block it. I always threw them away if I ever took them out and thought that's one thing I won't ever need, well you live and learn!

Bloody weird man, pleased you got to the bottom of it. My DAC sometimes interferes with the mains causing a thump through the left bass driver. What the hell...! Good excuse to turn off this digital shite and play vinyl ;)
