Hi all
Just listening to some Mark Knofler I borrowed aff Avinash through this amp combo into Impulse H2 speakers and its made me wonder if all the messing about with valves up to now has been worthwhile. Its a bloody superb and natural sound out of this combo.Has anyone else any views on the lightspeed attenuator?
Regards Dave.

to my (not so much limited) experience (np x-350 included) i still find valves as the most musical devices an amp can be based upon :)

Hi Dave. I thought the H2's / F3 sounded bloody ace when I heard it, I am certain you might be right, but sometimes it is hard to let go.....

If I ever have the time / cash I would certainly like to have a go at an F3 or maybe F5 but I would need two now!

I had an LDR pre here a while ago and would say considering the effort involved it is a no brainer, very nice. So nice that I have a board here now from a group buy on Diyaudio to be stuffed in the new year. The board cost only £12 but of course there are some here who have built one from scratch.

Hi Dave If you are fed up with valves I will send a 10 ton wagon round to yours and take all your stock off your hands.:lol::lol:

It is close but doesn't beat your GM70'd Mr Liang in absolute sound quality Dave!!! Having said that the Lightspeed is one of the best preamps you can get and in combination with the F3 is a lot more user friendly than the 40 Kg Mr Liang.

That's interesting Leo.I've seen Chinese copies of Nelson's other amps, but not the F5.If you're interested, gotta be worth a punt at that price!

I've been wanting to start a new amp project anyway so may be tempted, was even considering valves, dunno tbh

Well valves would be good IMHO,but you'd struggle to do it for the price of this.Supposed to be a cracking amp from what I've heard/read.

I've still got a modded WAD KIT88 with Sowter output transformers under the bed, was going to pull it apart and use the bits

If I've still got the big heatsinks in my junk box I'll go for the F5 first, I'm happy with the dac so now need to try out some more amps:)

I bought some of Peter Daniel's F5 boards (Audiosector) in the group buy on diyaudio. The quality of the boards and layout look superior to the Gigawork boards. It is the quality of the parts used in these Class A amps that makes or breaks them. I have got all the bits to make the amp, including the power supply boards and transformer. The parts alone were £250. So you could make an F5 clone but would it sound like an F5?
