Not long now until the WW show.

Anyone here exhibiting ? or attending ?

I have my name down for a exhibiters room again , If I get a room it will be the 3rd time exhibiting , Also have been twice as a walker ( Very enjoyable ) , If you are a hifi buff you MUST attend at least once in your life as it is NOT a commercial show , all the rooms have forum members showing their home hifi setups . The new owners of HiFi WW will have a slightly more business / commercial approach . Trade stands will be at the show but you don't have to buy things

If you fancy a room you can enter you details on the ww spread sheet , May help if you are on the wam as well . link here for the spread sheet

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1L2kB6iPRFcqylI_0P9zHwWpqd9lJAqPJK_IP0CySzCI/edit#gid=995576601

If you only need tickets you can get them here

http://thehifishow.com

This link also has details about the show , Have a LOOK :)

Good luck to them, but whatever it is, it seems to be a million miles away from the spirit of a Wam show.

I'll definitely be going. After attending as a visitor I exhibited the year before last and loved it. I felt I went some effort to transport my little Harbeths, 2 Croft boxes, speaker stands and CD player but some go to extraordinary lengths, exhibiting gear the size of wardrobes, multiple turntables and the like. You'll hear and see stuff hear that you'll not see anywhere else. I received very engaging and warm feedback.

I'll make sure I have a name badge on, don't be a stranger ;-). The internet can on occasion bring out what is not the best in us, face to face we generally operate on a far better level.

I went in 2012 it was very interesting. As Al says, you have to go at least once.

Had a look at the exhibitor's list. Some interesting speakers, I would like to hear the Kii Threes. And Looper's system. And the solid aluminium 4 way dipole.

Watch out you'll end up on Wam.TV LOL.

Looking increasingly commercial from the website.

There were trade stands when I went in 2012, It didn't detract from the event. Although I bought a copy of The Nightfly that turned out to have groove damage, wasn't too happy about that.

I've banned myself from attending for various reasons:D

I went a few years ago, Alex and me did the "Cheap as Chips" room, where we had to put together a system for £100 or less, hid did a system and i did one, it went really well. i must admit i enjoyed catching up with guys from AoS, I think we all went into town for a curry and a shandy. i think the only problem you have when exhibiting is you don't get as much time to look around, but as others have said, everyone should go at least once.

We will be exhibiting but only if we manage to get allocted a decent sized room due to the sheer size of the machines.

If not last year's would have been our last which sadly due to my health i was unable to attend.

I personally really hope to be there.

If Stewart is exhibiting it's worth a visit just to hear those r to r machines and our very own Al has some great kit too. I personally won't be going, I have exhibited four times and visited twice but the spirit of the wam has evaporated with the new owner. All the bully boys are gone but also what made it great. I much prefer here and LH these days.

I remember it well Mike and still refer to your room of that day. It markedly and permanently changed my view of this fine hobby !

A lot of people couldn't believe their ears especially when they learned how little it had cost, both Alex and me could have sold what we had brought 10 times over and made a massive profit.

You're coming the raw prawn Al.

No not a raw prawn ( Whatever that is ? or has to do with a hifi show ) Just can't understand why the anti just because the WW site has new owners , A age old saying " Don't knock it till you have tried it " I am more than willing to try it , ask me after the show , I may have a different outlook then but as said I am open minded and looking forward to the show :)

Can you remember what it was Mike ? It's great to see the esoteric/expensive gear but the low cost approach really does appeal to me too. It really was a great room on the day.

My system comprised of my Aiwa AP2600 turntable, an Aiwa C50 pre & P50 power amp, a Yamaha DVDS-2500 SACD/DVDA player and a pair of JBL LX500 speakers, all i remember of Alex's system was a tasty pair of RAM 150 speakers

I'm not really sure the Wam show will be all that different. Under the previous management the show still had quite a lot of commercial interest if you looked closely. The biggest change is really just that the new owners are being honest and upfront about it being a commercial concern. As far as I am concerned the show and the forum are entirely different things. Under the previous management I thought the forum was badly run and poorly moderated with commercial interests leveraging influence behind the scenes. The show on the other hand was well organised and very professional.

I'm planning to be there. I've only been once before in 2015 and loved it, my wife also enjoyed it. Missed last year due to a serious cycling accident but now fit for a return visit. Despite the commercialisation of the Wam I'm more than happy to support the individual exhibitors who make such a great effort.

A sentiment echoed here Mark. It's basically a hotel stuffed with (mostly) blokes' stereos with (mostly) blokes listening to them, talking about them, catching up and generally having a right old good time. I really can't see how this basic premise changes much, unless everybody dresses smartly or something ;-)

I shall be exhibiting in room 209 come in and have a listen and say hello.

Source will be a modified Thorens TD160 Super, rewired Rega RB300 and a Philips GP390 ceramic cartridge.

I've just sent one of my GP390 to the Expert Stylus Cartridge Company to have it re tipped with a line contact stylus can't wait to get it back!

Amplification will be High Octane Phonostage, modified Quad II's and modified Quad 22 preamp or the original Electrocompaniet 25 watt class A amplifier and preamp.

Speakers will be the same as last year a pair of restored 1978 JBL L40's.

I heard that last year some folk never found their way out. They still roam the corridors asking unsuspecting guests for help with lifting a power amp.

Unfortunately the Kii Threes will not be at Scalford this year, so in the Lenco Heaven room we will be making do with my Proac Tablette 2000's

Oh, the Kiis were one of the main draws.
I see there are still exhibitors rooms available. Never seen that before.

I doubt it. They interest me but there are vast swathes of enthusiasts who would never entertain the idea for a second. A lot of them got to Scalford I'd bargain.

Maybe I should have said the Kiis are the main draw for me
There has been so much hype on other forums about them and I want to hear what cardboard bass sounds like.

I have been to every Scalford event except the last one and feel like there won't be that much new or different there this year.

I expect this year to be a great show and a huge amount of fun - there's no reason at all why it should differ from previous years!

This year the show will have a Bring & Buy event for both personal and charity sales.
As I understand it, you take the gear along before 9.30 and leave it on the B&B stall in the main pavillion (it should be well signposted). You then drive off to take part in the Park & Ride.
You specify a price and whether you want the £dosh or whether it should go to the Show's nominated charity (Cancer Research UK this year, I believe ).
The stall will be manned (or womaned) all day.

There's also the traditional charity raffle - I hear there's upwards of £8,000 worth of hifi prizes donated by dealers, as well as gear donated by forum members.

As always, the Show will be a great charity event as well as a great audio event. :)

... sadly, for the 1st time, I won't be able to be there. :(
