My original computer speakers went 'kaput'. They were not that expensive when new and must be 15-20 years old so did pretty well
I did a lot of research and decided on a pair of M-Audio AV42's
Anyone else using these ?
I was torn between the AV32's and 42's but for an extra £20 went for the 42's...
No.
Acoustic Energy Aego speakers here.

Ditto.
Short of JBL Control 5's and a Sub there's not much better.

Received the AV42's
If there is any speaker that sounds like it needs running in it must be these.... rough sounding at first but gradually getting there

They are at last opening up.... I don't think I've heard a rougher sounding pair of speakers 'out of the box'... so been driving them hard'ish to get them to open up a bit.... :D

I've had the 300b warming up all night, using up my electric, and forgot all about it trying to run in these speakers ...

Well after comparing my AV-42's to 'another' pair of computer speakers I now realise that actually the 42's are very good indeed.. ;)
I still think they need some running in but they are getting better by the hour/day...:D

They are running in nicely now and sounding better every day...

Well I've had some faults with the AV42's so will be sending them back to Amazon
On the feedback I've had on this thread I orderd the AE Aego M system and have just received them
Will unbox them soon and give them a try...
Had a set of the Aego M's for over 10 years now Bev, they are superb.
You wont believe how wee speakers that size can fill a room with such a clear deep sound.
Good choice Mrs!

Just look how tiny the Aego speakers are against the 42's....

I cannot fathom how they sound so good and I paid so little for the AE's, it's amazing how good they are ;)

About the same Bev, was the sweet spot after a lot of faffing about.
Tried a few pair of active 'hifi' speakers on my computer (JBL Control 5's, recent Wharfedale Diamonds and the like) and none have been as good as the Aego M's to me.
Again, good choice Bev.

Thanks Gary...
I am absolutely amazed how such tiny speakers can sound so good... they are very musical as well.. very foot tapping...
Did you use anything under the little speakers to isolate them ? I've just 'plonked' them down on the desk at the moment
Nope.
An avid 'plonker' myself, I just put them on my desk and enjoyed.
The sub handles the 'rumbly' frequencies where isolation n such actually matters and being Acoustic Energy they have already thought of this stuff in advance.
My experiece, just put the boxes where you need 'em and enjoy.

Plonked seems ok to me
I have the sub where I can reach it at the moment but will probably 'hide' it somewhere underneath the desk in a while
Well happy with the AE's and for what I paid they seem a complete bargain to me :)
still using my creative labs ones. had em for years and sound great. Kevlar driver

I had a pair of Creative GigaWorks T20's for a little while and they didn't sound anywhere near as good as the 42's. I did not have them long enough to try against the AE's but they wouldn't have stood a chance against them to be honest
I think the T40's might have been a bit closer sound wise though
Which Creative's do you have Grant ?

Got my TDK S60 NXT system rigged up in here. Had it for a long time, sounds decent enough. Got a beautiful Cyruslink setup in the other room.

no idea... Had them for an age. up until recently was running a dac into them too. TBH they aint used much, bar occasional music searches and videos. They can go quite loud. I dont like subs

I was the same as you Grant in not liking subs that's why I went for the 42's but now having the AE's has kinda changed my thoughts about subs...
The AE's are so very good and I am still amazed that such tiny little speakers can sound so superb.... I've been listening all night to the AE's and am very impressed ;)
The little speakers only measure about 10cm x 7cm and I have absolutely no idea how they create the sound they do
