These were listed a long time ago, now back up for sale at a reduced price.

They are about 35w to 40wpc. Sound very similar to my previous 300B SET, just more power (which was the idea), but not enough for my Harbeth speakers.

I had them fully rebuilt with new Sowter transformers, caps, 4 and 8 ohm taps, new matched octet of valves, cases polished etc, as new, then used about 6 months.

Would cost around £5,500 to £6,000.

You'll be doing my loft a favour. PM me your intentions about logistics - are you in Spain permanently?

Yup I live here. Let's see if they get snapped up - I wouldn't be surprised.

I saw you commenting the other day on Mike Adams preferring KT88 in triode mode to 300B SET. He has a point, these are excellent amps and half the price of the SET they replaced (which I sold for about £4,500, I seem to recall, with old valves).

He also had a Vinyl 1 reference, I also have one for sale with a line input, I might list that here as well.

If you buy, how were you planning to get them to Spain? They are very well packed and double-boxed, but pretty big and heavy.

Can these be wired for pentode or were they designed for triode operation?

UPS. Not cheap but reliable. If Tom is interested I'd be happy for him to snap them up...

I'm just thinking out loud. This sort of pair is utterly perfect for Tannoys and therefore worthy of drooling over, but I've already picked up an stopgap EL34 amp for while Will does my Radford restoration ... so I'll regrettably pass.

Hey I drove to France in the holidays to pick up the EAR 912. Ade - you are just not dedicated enough!

I think they can be rewired. They will sound better in triode mode, so I was led to believe. I presume your Tannoys are around 95db, so don't know why you would need the extra power. Depending where in Berkshire you are, I'm about an hour away in London N3.

If I was still into component audio I'd drive to France for an EAR 912. Just about as good an active pre-amp as there is.

These are easily convertible to Pentode Tom.

I had the stereo version of them with my Reds/Tom's GRFs and it was a great match, these would be even better I suspect.

I did seriously consider buying them from Steven myself about a year ago but with my RAs they drive really well off 8w of SET (and even better from the 18w of BP I now have) I didn't know that at the time and it took a lot of arranging to hear

These really are first class, GLWS

Given recent chat about kt88 octets and wanting to try a valve amp, time for a bump.

Adey has his eye on them, but he seems to get tempted by new kit on a regular and frequent basis!

I got a nice deal on my new set-up, so I reduced the price on these to shift them, as I had them made and know the cost involved, they really are a bargain.

If adey had a money tree he'd have these without thinking. But like most folks I have a finite playpot of money and as i noticed a slight problem with my Allaerts cart decided that getting it sorted (expensive and drawn out) and buying a replacement cart was a direction i had to go in. My Cary's are long in the tooth and in need of a service though they sound great - my original plan for this year's playpot was to have them serviced and buy amps to do stand in duty - but without a cart there would be no music.

Being who I am I couldn't just buy a make do kind of cart while the allaerts is away and ended up with the Miyajima because Hugo had it on offer. Of course this has led to a search for a SUT. None of this was the plan before Christmas. Had the allaerts not needed a look at there would be 2 fantastic shiny amps in my system right now.

In perpetual pursuit.

So that's a NO !?!

How do you align a cartridge that looks like a sawn-off conker?

Your pursuit is indeed likely to be perpetual. Hope the sun is shining your way, freezing over here.

Freezing here to lol. Actually aligning the conker is easy. And I never say no...

Can someone do me a favour and buy these amps. They really are rather good. The last bit of my audio remaining after buying an all-in-one unit. They are blocking up my loft. They look fab. The price is about parts cost, given the new Sowter transformers, caps, polished cases, new octet of valves etc. Sensible offers invited.

I'm not so convinced about KT series amps sounding better in triode mode rather than pentode as I preferred some monos recently that had a switch in pentode mode. Both modes had sufficient power delivery (in theory).

In other words, I reckon it just depends.

But yeah these look more than good enough for £2K surely. Buy, buy, buy. Someone.:D

Hi Steve, I might be interested, if these are still available, but I would need to listen to them with my speakers. I have 300B's right now and there are not doing the right things with my Impulse H2 speakers. Where are you in North London? I am in Bushey, near Watford. Cheers David

This is a crazy low figure . If I was still playing the hifi game properly I'd buy these right now. There's so much sound here for the money, remarkable price.

Someone should buy these tonight.
