My music tastes are Jazz and Blues mostly. Also Dub... All of it so-called 'Old School'

Welcome Ash. Which Jazz and Dub artists do you like? Dubwise I like Bill Laswell, International Observer and many others, Jazz....too many to mention, but more in the fusion/funk/ambient style.
Hey!
Dub tastes tend towards Scientist, Burning Spear
Jazz wise... Slow sax/piano laden stuff like Ike Turner with Stanley Turrentine, Art Pepper, Paul Desmon and so on Also really new stuff.... Think Four80East are tremendously talented

I still prefer to buy cds and rip them to flac. Use J River to play them on my MS Surface Pro cabled to Schiit gear

I have a SL1210 from about 15 years ago that I've unbowed an wired into my headphone amp too...

Vinyl wise my tastes veer towards Grover Washington, Anita Baker, Bob James, Earl Klugh and such

Hello Ash. Welcome to AOS.
There are quite a few valve headphone amps about. I'd suggest asking for some opinions in the Artist's Palette section. I reckon a good few members will have used valve headphone amps.
Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Welcome Ash! Thats a very nice little pile of Schiit! ;)
As a newb in the Schiit territory, but quite experienced headphones user, i can only say; audition the Schiit Jotunheim with your 650's, preferably with a balanced cable conversion!
I bought mine with the phono option, mad performance for pocket change! :)
Anyways, welcome!

Thanks. Was thinking of getting the Lyr as I wanted a valve amp. I'll look into the Jotenheim for sure.... Finding a place to audition this stuff is really difficult
Who does balanced cables for the HD 650?

Hi Moderators
I didn't know where else to post this...
Where would be the best place to ask who best to approach to get my Technics SL1210 Mk2 serviced and perhaps have some upgrades done?
Related posts all seemed DIY by clearly really talented folk... I'm actually looking for someone to do the necessary work for me.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ash

Apologies! Late as usual...
Anyways, there are many options for balanced cables for the HD-650.
Both your local dealer and all kinds of online suppliers have cables and adapters available. However, i would advise against using any form of balanced adapter with the Jotun as it actually is a fully balanced amp.
Many people convert their original cable too.
Just google "balanced cable Sennheiser HD-650" and you shall find!
