I seem to have won a Denon DL-103 with a boron cantilever and Shibata diamond - http://www.ebay.fr/itm/122282142943
I was not expecting that.

If it does not, you will see it in the "Private Exhibitions" area. I think it will work. I have an 18g headshell weight for a 103.

No worries, Kev. I don't think you'll need 18g though, as the new gold body-shell will be considerably heavier than the stock plastic one it replaced, so you'll have to take that into consideration.

To that effect, you don't really want any more than said 18g mass *in total*, including the weight of the cartridge itself and 'headhshell' of the FXR, or you could end up with a somewhat 'sat on' and over-damped sound.

If that ends up being the case though, just use a lighter headshell weight. My advice would be firstly to install the cartridge as is and see how it sounds, then if necessary experiment with adding mass from there, obviously ensuring that you have the ability to balance out the weight at the other end ;)

Anyway, hope it hits the spot for you!

VTF at 2.5g, and sounding pretty good.

I think I could do with a denser material for my counterweight.

And yes, the auxiliary weight is fitted.

I have been listening to music for most of the day, using the DL-103.
What a lovely piece of kit this is. It's a keeper for sure.

I just wish I had a standard DL103, so I could judge what benefits the upgrades it came fitted with have had.
It sounds superb, with a good level of detail, and deep powerful bass. Very musical, and as Firebottle said, it just drags you into the music.

Marco.

The cartridge housing weighs 27g.
All,up weight s just over 31g. It works well on my FX1200, with 175g of counterweight on the other end.

I recognise that counterweight he he. Took me ages to polish it up like that.

Am surprised you are using all three weights must be some serious mass at the other end. Beauty of the counterweights set though it'll take anything.

I was surprised to have to fit all three as well.
Other end is about 31g for the cartridge alone.

That's roughly what I ended up with on the 774 when I tried to get the resonance figure sorted with my Zu Denon 103, I think I had 36g at Headshell end using lead tape 😁

31g? Wow that's heavy. I'm like you, I'd like to know how it sounds next to a standard 103. That Boron cantilever is the stuff! I've always wanted a Boron cantilever!

Having used the "triggers broom" 103 for a while, I am tempted to try a standard 103. The idea will be to run it as is, and then have a go at putting it in a nice aluminium body I have lying around.

The question is, 103 or 103R?

I am looking at buying one towards the end of the month, so if anybody is thinking about getting rid of one, please let me know.

Well.... I have a spare (minty) DL-103 C1 you could have at a good price, which trust me, roasts the stock 103 or 103R. And as you know, I know my Denons!

Interesting (albeit short) thread on Lenco Heaven on the 'C1' here: http://www.lencoheaven.net/forum/index.php?topic=15971.0

Just PM me if you're interested. It's a *superb* cartridge, Kev
