So here's my latest purchase.

I knew that they're big but shit this is an absolute monster in size and power 300w x 300w into 4ohms .
And now to find a new tv/media unit as thing dwarfs my current one .

Agreed !! I've just dug out an system rack from the garage and it won't fit on that either . I moved things for speakers before but a bloody amp !!
And it's 31kg's
However it sounds the �� though I've yet to put it through its paces ( when the wife's out )

Yes, it'll make the KEFs sound like studio monitors. I used a similar monster to power my Tannoys once, and they certainly learned who was the boss ... words like 'disciplined' and 'dominated' come to mind :D

I do believe that this will keep me satisfied for a while , I've now taken the tv stand apart and reconfigured it so that this monster fits .
Question: the one thing that I've never changed in my system is my cheap ole Yamaha tuner that I paid £5 on a car boot , will an upgrade produce any major benefits in sound ?

And this monster is an upgrade from my little ion obelisk 3x and x-pak 1 which I have preferred to many other amps , hopefully this will be a keeper, I can't stop looking at it ( sad I know)

Happy New Year to you to, Andy. No idea about the tuner, start a thread, loads of tuner nuts on here to get advice from. I use a 1980 Technics a mate gave me for free back in 1994, it does the job but I'm sure it could be bettered.

They only really come alive when they have huge power up the jacksie, imo. :thumbsup:
I don't think most people have heard what the bigger KEFs can really do.

I agree though And I always thought that all I need now is power more power and for once I do believe I'm right , they truly sing now at all levels.

In the days when reviews used to be technically-based, I seem to recall some of the KEF Ref speakers were considered particularly difficult to drive, with measuement curves looking like a cross-section of the Alps? More recently, I sold a powerful ATC amp to a fellow with one of the old, big multi-driver KEF Ref jobbies. When he came to pick it up, he looked at it and said 'ah yes, that should sort the buggers out' :lol:

I think it depended on the model. I had the jaw dropping (bass wise) top of the line R107's which had a flat 4ohm impedance. My Audio Innovations Second Audio monos drove them with incredible ease.

I have to say that these same kef reference 105/4's sounded great on the end of my gorgeous Marantz pm4 in class A mode @15wpc .( another lucky gentleman owns the PM4 now ) .

I've never seen one before, is it a classA amp...? Does it run hot when really pushed..? Are these a current model or an older design..?

My father very briefly had the Teac Ai300. We both didn't get on very well with the ''Beast'' Finding the sound too forward and dry. It just wasn't a pleasant listen!

I'm not sure if the latter was just down to batch or our room!

The build quality is indeed impressive though.

Well to me it does everything that all my other amps did but better and in one package .This really was a leap of faith and I am very very pleased with it .
I genuinely can't fault it .
Should anyone fancy a demo you are welcome, just pm me .
I have listened all day today without fatigue and it's barely warm .
I believe it runs in class A/B .
It is the nuts mate .

I have the last of the Reference 105 series, the 105.3 (yes the 3 came after the 4... go figure:scratch:) and they are incredibly easy to drive. They have KEF's Conjugate Load Matching (last KEF to use it IIRC) which means ruler flat impedance (4 Ohm) and are 93dB/W. Even my Leak Stereo 20 at 10WPC drives them great ;)
