That's steep money, but if it's as good as it looks, then it's expensive, but not outrageous. An A80 transport alone (without the meter bridge etc) is probably £2k now, without servicing or restoration costs. Many A80s have had a hard life and can need some expensive restoration.

10 years ago I would have said this was on the high side but honestly A80's in knackered condition have never sold for under £1000.

Beautiful machines and worth every penny if you can really use one.

I enquired about the Sony APR mentioned in the listing. He said it was going to be listed for £3500...

I recently considered an A80RC deck alone (i.e. without the meter bridge) going for £1,500, but I declined as I was suspicious of the seller (one who regularly charges top dollar for his wares - so the deck/heads were likely to shagged and need a lot of work done on them.

A few years ago I turned down the chance to buy a C37 (with level meters) for £800, as I wasn't sure if I would use it to its full capabilities and again was uncertain about the availability of spares.

Even so the A80 is the machine I would go for, rather than any of the 800 series, and given the excellent condition of the machine advertised, if I had the money I would take it.
