I've been trying to train the cat to do it but she's always distracted by the SME's dangly bias weight.

You mean you've not learned that cats dont listen to anyone and only do what they want to do ;)

You never know, she might have a hidden talent lol.

That is however an interesting piece of kit, I don't walk too well so something like that could be very useful when I can't get to the tt straight away.

Mechanism looks very similar to an Audio Technica lifter from the 80s. Around £6.95 I recall.

Yes, same idea. I'm lucky enough to have a couple of the ATs - they also came in two height sizes.

If this is the Audio Techinca http://www.vinylengine.com/library/audio-technica/at6006-safety-raiser.shtml

then here it is in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gs9jjag2ls

There's one on da 'Bay at £139 from Japan which is a lot more than £6.95

The Q Up is another alternative and cheaper https://www.amazon.com/Q-UP-The-Up-Tonearm/dp/B008OAMD26

Wow! Yes, that's the one. I think I preferred it at £6.95

Monitor Audio (the original company) marketed it first and when they decided to drop it, I bought a tray of 50 for a derisory sum and gave them away with any turntable if the customer fancied one.
