Kohler sink waste O rings

We have a Kohler sink which uses push in waste trap baskets. These seal when pushed in but the rubber O rings seal only last a few weeks and are expensive to buy. These are just ordinary O rings but the UK distributor charges £8.04 pence each !!!

Any idea what I can use instead of the rip off British replacement ?

I buy 'O' rings from China on ebay. All sizes available and cheap. Buy a bulk order for peanuts.

Do a worldwide search and they'll come up. You may have to scour the listings a bit for the right size.

Aldi and lidl often have boxes of them in their specials too... dirt cheap too. Depends on size though

You can buy o ring in metre lengths for £1 (you could) from UK sellers.

Try local "bearing man" or similar, they are probably shore hardness 70, try to get harder shore 90. They are probably nitrile.

I wanted a small quantity of an unusual size that my local didn't stock, they'll be here tomorrow they said, and they were.

They had to order 100, I really only wanted 10, but as they had to order a minimum order I said I would take 40 to help them to cover costs. I was shocked as the total payable was £5.70.

Put your manhood on the hole see if it a nice snug fit , pull it out and measure around willy with a flexible tape , Should work fine :lol:

A Micrometer, plenty on ebay, an example of a cheap one:

You need to measure the diameter of the rubber the 'O' rings are made of and the overall diameter.

If the 'O' rings are only lasting a few weeks then something is wrong with the design ?

It will be a standard size, so lay the o ring on a rule, and take the outside diameter and thickness of the ring. Then check the sizes on Google or your supplier.

If you have a vernier gauge to measure, it may make things easier.

You need the glue too,if you go down that route. In my Ag sphere , we use O rings in all sorts of things. Power washers ,hydraulic fittings etc
I agree about the Vernier to measure the width of the original ring . It may just be you could try a slightly thicker ring , if there is a slack fit already , or use some sort of sealant when assembling (but not the sort that dries like glue !!!:rolleyes:)
