Sibilance

Some advice please gents . I have a GL75 with stock arm fitted with a Shure M55e . The cartridge is running at 1.8g . I'm getting a bit more sibilance than I would like . Where should I be looking ? Any advice much appreciated .

A good place to start is the alignment of the cartridge in the headshell,,,,download a protractor and check the alignment.:)

1.8g!Sorry Brian thought that might get your attention!!! Tracking force on that JICO stylus is 1.25g +/- .25g isnt it??? Try lowering the tracking force or increasing the height of your tone arm.

Think i use 1.7gm but have to check..thats the eliptical. Sillibance is often azimuth

Thanks guys . On the eBay listing it states 0.75-2g Andy . I'll try reducing it and rechecking alignment .
I never thought of adjusting tonearm height .

I used to track mine at 1.75g. You may need to add 400pF of extra capacitance to tame the treble.

But before you worry about that, check the arm alignment, azimuth and VTA.

(I ought to add that I moved on from the M55E sometime back in 1971, so my recollections may be hazy; but at the time and even now, I usually track cartridge at ~0.25g below the maximum value of the manufacturer's suggested VTF range.)

Yep, check how level your platter is, then armboard, then headshell when stylus is sitting on a record. Welcome to borrow my Feickert if you want mate.

I stand corrected & offer apologies the super dooper SAS stylys is 1.25mg +/- .25g which means mines not tracking properly either, many thanks guys. ;)

Seriously though. I find VTA experimentation makes pays off with my ADC carts. They also have elliptical styli and can be siblant until the VTA suits them.

Well , following the advice given on this thread , I made a few adjustments and the sibilance has been greatly rduced . The GL75 is sounding fantastic . Thanks chaps :)
