I had an LE1 on my Thorens TD166 back in the day, loved it to bits...
Later in my "HiFi Shop" days I sold a few PU2's then PU3's mainly partnered with Thorens TD160's, or LP12's.
I always liked them, very clean & open in the midrange, thought them to be better than a lot else around at the time, albeit a little fiddly to set-up.:mental:

The PU2 and 3 were/are very good arms, the PU1 less so. The LE1 was cheaper but still a very good arm.

A friend of mine has an LE1 monterd on a Systemdeck carrying a Sumiko Bluepoint cartridge.

As Dave has mentioned, Audio Oragami is the place to go for refurbishment, fettling etc.

To my ears, the PU1 was the best sounding but very temperamental. The bearings were very close tolerance and would seize up with temperature changes. The PU2 came with a 'mass ring' which went round the bearing housing and as I recall, the instructions said to bolt it up very tight. If you bolted it more than just loose, it would deform the housing and the bearings would seize.

The LE1 was an entirely different design and made by Helius IIRC.

The Audio Origami designs are way ahead in terms of design and construction. Excellent arms.

Wow, I remember I had one of these on a Logic DM101 back around 1983. It was loaded up with a Kiseki Blue cartridge and the sound was staggeringly good. In fact, the only thing that spoiled it was the then Naim amplification that I had. Should've had valves.

Years later, during the nineties, I had an Alphason HR100S MCS fitted to an Alphason Sonata. Completely different in every way. Better...? I'd say so.

I have both a PU2 and an LE1. I had the PU2 on a Lenco for quite a while and it was a fine combination. The only thing I didn't like about the PU2 was that it looked like I'd made it in my shed at the bottom of the garden :( My LE1 is currently sitting on a GL78 and whilst it doesn't have the finesse of the PU2 it still puts on a pretty good show. It looks considerably better too :) If it was chromed I think it would suit a Lenco like it grew there apart from the platter not being high enough but we can sort that can't we :trust:

If you thought the PU2 looked like a shed made arm, you should see the PU1, it makes the PU2 look like it was made by Nikon..:eek:
