Mrs B seems to be keen on me playing reggae at the moment. It seems to bring calm and chill into a fairly stressful life for her.

I've a reasonable amount in my collection but do feel free to suggest any gems which give you the irie vibes that I can play and maybe purchase for her. Whilst I tend to go for the more spaced out dub stuff her tastes are for more mainstream and vocal.

Suggest away.

Those are three obvious choices that she should enjoy.
If you want to get her into more dubby stuff, try these two :

Massive Attack v. Mad Professor - No Protection
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71GeEEqdwxL.jpg

Bob Marley - Dreams Of Freedom
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51aBDipfUgL._SY355_.jpg

She'll already know most of the stuff on those two, particularly the Bob Marley which happens to be one of my favourite albums of all time.
It's so chilled and I often listen to it if I've got a long drive ahead of me and just leave it on repeat .. it's simply beautiful.

Out of 1500 plus originals albums, reggae remains my staple diet since childhood (alongside classic '70's soul)
so where do I start ? ......... here's just a few lp's I play time after time after time....

Dennis brown is prolific to say the least, but you wont go wrong with the following albums:

Wolf and Leopards - (Out and out Classic)
Love Has Found it's Way
The Prophet Rides again

Burning Spear

Marcus Garvey (another out and out Classic, not a bad track on it)
Dry and Heavy (Fab !)

Max Romeo
Reconstruction ( Quality !)

Heptones
Night Food (another classic)

Freddie McGregor
Big Ship (Classic)
Across the border ( a personal fave)
Love at First Sight ( quality )

Pass me the Rizzla. Pass me the herb. Get it on vinyl. The EQ is mad on the copy I have. I wonder if they messed it up as the digital copy doesn't sound anywhere near the same.

Greg's best must be on double vinyl IMHO. Too sterile otherwise. Takes a while to get into but the feeling running through is just fabulously chilled. The cool ruler no question.

I'm not sure if even I know what some of those are Dave:lol: the toasting stuff is good though.

She differs from my taste for the spaced out and dubby trippy stuff and sort of knows what she likes. For instance we found a live youtube vid of Sly &Robbie and The Taxi Gang and she enjoyed that. She loves the early UB40 as suggested by Ali. Bob Marley obviously, enjoyed the Wailers and the Beat at Glastonbury the other year. Likes Horace Andy, Desmond Decker, Jimmy Cliff.

Doesn't go in for much ragga, but ok with Chaka Demus but no Shabba lol.

Just got back from a mooch around town to check out the sales..

now chilling my achy feets with a cold Tiger Beer and some CD's

Dunno if they're in the sale or just cheap anyways but the Cardiff HMV had a load of "Island Vaults" 2 CD sets for just £3.99 each.
I walked away with:-
Top Deck Presents Ska Vocals
Island Reggae Discomixes (just played CD1 which has the extended dub for Rico's "Children Of Sanchez" amongst other killers)
Island Presents Ska
Island presents Rock Steady
Island Presents Dub

I can see more than a few gems amongst it all, and loads to check out

on a slightly different note does anyone know of easily available releases of '60s Blue label Coxsone 45's. I've been looking for the Soul vendors's "Swing Easy" and similar on a CD comp for a long while...

Whether it is reggae or not is another question. Bit of a dubstep element really and sounds a little Mad Professor in places. Great bass sounds on it, though.

Pretty much anything by Horace Andy is worth listening to.

Barrington Levy has done some great stuff too, especially the track murderer.

I've just picked up a copy of Rankin Toyan's How the west was won on vinyl, that's a great album.

I've got a huge roots/dub playlist on spotify I can share if you use it, there might be some things on it you like.
