Hi all

Thinking of trying a cork mat on my TD-160

Two common types available are 100% Cork and a Cork Neoprene Mix

Any thoughts on which would be better, or if it makes little difference, prices are about the same so sonic difference if any is all I am after.

Thanks

Paul

Never liked it on mine, thought it deadened the sound too much but some people seem to enjoy them. Maybe it depends on the plinth and how the table is seated but for me I went back to the original mat

The mixed one is best..one i used was a double mat with top having a bigger hole to accomodate label. Was of all mats tried, and there were many, the best overall

The Ringmat Anniversary Gold Spot works well on a Linn, so should work well on a Thorens. Think you can send it back for a refund if you don't like it. Definitely worth a try.

Over the years I too tried most all the 'In Vogue' TT mats on my Thorens.
Never really heard much (if Any) differences .
Been back to the oem Thorens mat for a few years. Seems to work fine .. for me at least.

Been using the SRM/Tech silicone mat for a month or so on mine,
it's was certainly a step up from the cheapish(£10) cork and rubber one I had previously.

I tried a sorbothane mat once. It was a disaster. It left oily marks all over my records, which do not wash off. Never again!!

Most of the cork mats I've seen don't have a depression for the label area which means the record will not sit flat.

Thanks for the input.

Just ordered a cork/rubber mix one with the centre depression for the label.

Will post back if I notice any difference to the standard mat, good bad or no difference.

Wow, worst thing I ever did on my TD160. The sound was coarse, splashy and aggressive. Really not nice. I hope you have luck with your choice of course and hope it is the answer to your quest.

Yes but at least you put your money on the table and gave it a go.
