Hello from the Isle of Skye......

Hi folks, my name is Martin but everybody calls me big Marty, I live and work on the Isle of Skye on the North West coast of Scotland as a printer and a retained firefighter. first of all what a great site, I found this forum from a link to another link and here I am :). I do get a wee bit intimidated by other forums either being very aggressive or very elitist but not this one where I think music matters most. In the last six months I have started to upgrade my system with a new Pair of speakers and a pre owned amp which I have bought in the last couple of weeks. And here is my system:

ATC SIA2-150 Amp ( what a cracking Amp ) replacing a Cambridge Audio 840A
Cambridge Audio 840c
Musical Fidelity X-RAY CD player
Wadia 170i iTransport (using the Cambridge Audio as a DAC)
ATC SCM40 speakers ( what cracking speakers ) replacing Tannoy Revolution R3s

Other hobbies include Photography and birdwatching......

Now, give a huge shout to Dennis Blackham who lives near you I understand. he cut some amazing records back in the day as "Bilbo" and his site "skyemastering.com" will tell you who, what, why and where he is if you didn't know already..

Yep, the ATC amps and speakers are good, but if you like your 40's, DON'T get to listen to the fully active 50's or Dennis's 100A's (if he still has 'em). Those mid drivers need the active amps so the phase and crossover can be best set. The extra efficiency of active operation helps hugely here too.....:)


P.S. How does the X-Ray compare these days? We used to love it for £800, but I have a suspicion that the Cambridge 840c should see it off.....

Its just the RM200 came from someone in your neck of the woods via E-Bay. Thought it might have been you. Can't be to many quality audio enthusiasts in your part of the world ?

Was on Skye a few months ago in September, very nice.

Hi Dave, thanks for the kind welcome. To tell you the truth I had my X-Ray CD player in a box under my bed ready for eBay (£325 ) for a good example. but tried it last week with the new ATC Amp & speakers being fed buy the DAC from the Cambridge Audio CD player and to my surprise I think it sounds better than the standard Cambridge Audio 840 CD player :eek: I can't put my finger on it but it sounds fabulous.
