Rogers LS3/5a

A pair of these has fallen into my hands but they are in a sorry state. All drivers are dead (coils scraping) and the original binding posts have been changed for spring loaded so destroying a portion of the rear enclosure. The enclosures would be okay with some polishing. The 15ohm crossover measures okay.

I'm aware I can get replacement KEF drivers but I'm wondering if it is worth doing. I wouldn't need them and would be looking to sell them. They go for stupid prices on the net.

That was my thought too.

Or just offer them on here. AOS has a good few LS3/5a fans.

I hadn't thought about selling them as they are - hence no price or fotos. I was interested whether folks thought it worthwhile fixing them up for sale or binning them.

I definitely think a few photos would be good.

Even with dead drive units. Being Rogers examples, these will be of interest to somebody. There's not much in the way of cabinet repair or restoration that someone handy can't achieve. The genuine crossovers will be wanted too.

God knows - I never intended to sell them in their present condition. I started the thread to ask if they were worth fixing up and selling as they go for 900-2000€ on eBay which is silly. Or whether I should just bin them as I don't really have the time to do them justice.

Some members asked for photos.

If anyone still thinks I should sell in their present condition please give me an idea of what kind of prices are applicable - I'll then decide whether to sell them as is and post them in Private Exhibitions.

State a price but can say or near offer, to be sent via private message. No bids. Pictures must also accompany it.. no building up offers either

In my opinion. A fair price might be £100 to £150 for a scruffy pair with stuffed drivers. They will after all, require a fair bit of work and expenditure.

You do need to quote a price for Private Exhibitions, but you can ask for offers around a particular quoted price.

Martyn's a good and fair person to do a deal with on selling them and he understands the 'philosophy' of the BBC legacy more than many. Both Alex-UK and I have bought stuff from him and he's honest, meaning that any offer he makes for the remains of these LS3/5A's will be a fair one.

Thing is, NO LS3/5A from the early days will be 'quite' what they were when new and Doug Stirling has tested many pairs and found them all wanting according to a friend of mine who bought some non 'BBC Licenced' V2 equivalents from him, so even working ones may need a little work to bring them back to spec - heck, it was bad enough when they were brand new I remember....

My advice would be to definitely put them on eBay --- you might be surprised how high the price might go! You never can tell - but these are definitely of interest to many folks who might value them highly.
