Isolation base size question

Hi all.

I have a question.

Does it matter what size an isolation base is in relation to the equipment it stands on? I'm thinking of getting one but can't decide if the size of the base is detrimental to performance. Should the positions feet of the equipment mirror the positions under the base or should they be offset further out?

I'm looking for a base for my pre and power amp. For my amp, it's really quite heavy (approx 40kg) and wondered what kind of feet would be best for something heavy like that? I can't see oak cones being suitable some how but correct me if I'm wrong.

The most important variable is which area of the Hz spectrum your trying to shield your equipment from, you need to be able to cover the surface area of the underside the amp, your aim should be to spread the hz over a wider surface area, your effectively coupling your amp to the board.
