Having spent years using belt and idler drive turntables I was curious to find out if the older direct drives from the likes of JVC, Denon and Sony were as good as some people were suggesting. Well they were right! Back in the '70s we were told that belt drive was best so these direct drives didn't get much of a look in in the UK but we missed out. This Sony PS-6750 is an excellent turntable. Controls are super smooth and speed rock solid. There's a couple of interesting articles here if you want to read more.

I bought this particular example from a fellow enthusiast about a year ago and would be happy to keep it if a JVC DD hadn't come my way which allows more opportunity for modifying. This particular example is near original and includes the Sony silicon gel filled platter mat and Sony headshell. In fact the only non-original part is the brand new custom made cover I had made to replace the cracked original. To my mind this looks better than the original as you can see the beautiful turntable and carbon fibre tonearm through the lid. The original hinges are fitted and work smoothly.
Despite Sony's bullet-proof build quality and a reputation for reliability one concern about these mid 70's decks is the complex electronics used to run the direct drive mechanisms. In fact the Sony is relatively simple and as can be seen in the photos the circuit board is in excellent condition with all the capacitors showing no sign of wear.
Visually the Sony is excellent with only a slight mark near the on off switch where the lid rested on the deck. The beautiful tonearm works as smooth as silk. As part of the sale I'm including a JVC Z1-S cartridge which works fine but I don't know its history. In fact the arm is capable of handling much better cartridges - I used a Zyx R50 Bloom moving coil which worked very well. I have copies of the original user and service manuals which I will include in the sale.
I'm really not keen on posting this Sony so it will be cash on collection only. Depending on where you live I may be able to deliver or meet at a mutually convenient place for petrol money - pm me if you wish discuss this option.

I'm looking for £325 which is what I paid for it - the new lid cost me £68 delivered.
Thanks for looking.
