Hi,
I've been a member here for a while and browsed the forum as a helpful source of information but never posted. From my user name you can probably guess I'm into Lenco idler drive turntables and have rebuilt/modified quite a few over the years. I'm an admin over on Lenco Heaven. Recently I've been giving direct drives a try and bought a Sony PS-6750 from a Wammer. Excellent deck as it is I was really looking for a Denon or JVC flying sourcer type - the sort where you can build a new plinth for. I recently bought a JVC QL-71 and am currently working on a new plinth. I've also built a couple of full range speakers using Alpair drivers and messed with open baffles in the past. Since I retired I had a go at amp building - a Modulus-86. This was an steep learning curve for me and enjoyed the experience but electronics still scares me!

Anyway, I'm selling the Sony and a member here real name Oliver suggested I try this forum. So apologies for starting my art of sound membership with an advert, I hope you'll forgive me:)

Hi Ian. Welcome to AOS.

We have something in common. I'm a mod here and a member of Lenco Heaven (and retired). Anyway, glad Oliver sent you our way.

You'll certainly see a fair bit of diversity here. The only main specialised area being the Techiepedia for SL-1200/SL-1210 decks.

Tell us what music you like and something about your main system. The speakers sound interesting. DIY is popular here.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Welcome, Ian.

Another Glos resident here. :)

I had one of those flying saucer Denon turntables - it looked stunning and sounded pretty good, but I strongly suspected at the time that it was in dire need of a proper plinth to really let it strut its stuff.

Wow, thanks for the quick welcomes gents!
Musical tastes? I was brought up in North Yorkshire and was a regular attendee of the Redcar Blues and Jazz club so I'm rooted in British blues rock of the period. Favourite track of all time "The Winter Song" by Lindisfarne:). Of the current crop I like Agnes Obel, The XX, London Grammar and lots more - my kids keep me in touch. Apart from Jazz and Country and Western I like most music.

As to main system - well I mentioned the Modulus 86 which I built - this is a fully balanced power amp so I bought a Emotiva XSP-1 as a balanced pre which also happens to have an excellent phono stage built in.
Speakers. I have Frugel Horns and Frugel Horn XL's with Alpair drivers but mostly in residence are a pair of Neat Motive SX1's which have high WAF and fortunately sound great:)
Turntables, three or four Lencos around the house plus the aformentioned JVC which is my current project.

Welcome to AoS Ian,

I'm a big fan of idler TTs myself (Thorens and EMT). We have many Lenco lovers here who, I am sure, will be picking your brains.

Enjoy the Forum
