Looking for advice please, apparently the Ariston RD40 turntable came in two versions, DC and AC motors, does anyone know which is superior?

DC is easier to control and usually when using a power conditioner, it converts it to DC then regulates the AC output. I'd suggest DC for me.

It's more a case of how well engineered either is than one being intrinsically better than the other. AC for me though as less to go wrong and more difficult for it to be done badly....

Eh? :scratch: What relevance has a power conditioner got to a TT motor?

My recollection may be poor, I had RD40 20 years ago, but I always thought the Electronic version was an AC generated supply rather like Linn Valhalla (but with 33 and 45), and not DC.
I thought DC supplies were the domain of Pink Triangle ?:scratch:
Edit, VE are talking about DC motors, learn somat new every day

Does it really matter as long as its in working order.
I own one but cannot for the life of me tell if its an AC or DC and to be honest i dont really care....

As I recall, rumour had it that the DC variant struggled to go round at the right speed in anything resembling a consistent manner! On this basis, I'd stick to the AC version.

Yep indeed....
An AC synchronous motor rotates at a speed dictated by the frequency of the AC. It is in effect locked to that frequency and not trying to to go faster or slower.
A DC motor has zero ability to run at a given constant speed and must be forced to do so by feedback circuitry of one sort or another.
