Charlie,
Yes the SM900 is superb tape very wide dynamic range :eyebrows:
However I bought 2 pancakes of it last year and one of them is usless :doh: it cant sustain a recorded tone, so you cant bias the tape it wavers all over the place and if you record on it there is no HF?, very strange as the other tape as fine and the one in the video. If I can remember where I bought it I may have a go at sending it back?
The LPR35 and SM911 is also great tape

Alan,
Why don't you contact Recording the Masters direct by email? I would imagine that they would consider swapping the duff pancake. Is the small leader tag with the tape batch number and type still on the pancake? You could email them a picture of the leader tag.

I used to use Tapecity but find Thomann to be a bit cheaper
on some items even with the postage.

I've used both.It depends on what you buy, given the exchange rates. Pancakes are now cheaper at Tape City, but NAB reels are cheaper at Thomann

Just got word back from my ebay seller who stated they will replace the reel free of charge so that is good service by them :).
One thing I also noted about the last LPR35 alu reels is they are distorted and wobble during RW/FW my old Ampex 456, 406 and Maxell reels are much better quality and run perfectly true.
Wonder if the new RTM reels are better?

I haven't bought any new LPR35 or SM911/900 NAB reels. I tend to buy either pancakes and put them on old Ampex reels or I get plastics trident reels (I know they're horrible, but sometimes I buy 20 tapes at a time - the extra for the new metal NABs is more than the pancake cost)
